Activities at Parc des Familles

Parc des Familles brings together a variety of outdoor activities in Marrero, from a mountain bike trail to disc golf. A 5.5-mile mountain bike trail runs through the entire park; a walking path connects its northern and southern ends. The Grand Cypress Bayou Disc Golf Course has 18 holes and is free and open to the public. The differences are clear when choosing what to focus on: the bike trail crosses the park, the walking path connects its ends, and the course offers disc golf.

The Parc des Familles Spray Park is also clearly defined by its audience and season: it is open seasonally to children up to and including age ten and features 20 water elements. Check the season and current operating hours before your visit. A kayak rental kiosk provided by Bayou Adventure is located near the fishing pier; confirm availability in advance. Parc des Familles opens daily at 7:00 a.m. and closes at dusk; these hours may also change. So, when planning your outing, it is worth checking park opening hours, seasonal offerings, and rental availability separately.

Cycling and Carnival

The Mystic Krewe of Music is a mixed-gender Carnival group. It parades through Marrero on the West Bank with more than 250 participants and 20 music-themed floats; it was founded in 2023. The Tour de Jefferson, by contrast, is an annual bike ride that has been held since 2006. For the 2026 edition, the start and finish are at Estelle Playground in Marrero; it takes place on Sunday, November 22, 2026. This date applies to this edition: future editions may be held on different days or follow different routes. If you are planning your trip around the event, check the details for the relevant year.

Tours and Barataria Preserve

Another clearly focused offering is the Urban Aquafarm & Training Center in Marrero. Tours provide a direct look at hydroponics, aquaponics, and recirculating aquaculture. The offering is intended for school classes, gardening clubs, conference groups, and families. This makes it possible to combine a visit with a specific learning interest. If you would like to plan this tour, confirm bookings and availability directly with the operator.

At Barataria Preserve, a different perspective takes center stage: it interprets the culture of the people who inhabited the Delta in the past and today, and the unique ecosystem that sustained them. The human way of life, past and present, and the Delta’s ecological foundation are addressed together. However, one time-sensitive restriction is important when planning. As of September 5, 2026, the visitor center and trails were temporarily closed. The exceptions were the Twin Canals Trail and the parking lot, which were open for day visits from sunrise to sunset. Check current conditions before traveling.
