Ocoee’s first settlement was established in the mid-19th century on Starke Lake. The small agricultural settlement was supported by the local citrus and vegetable industries. When planning a trip, you can explore several distinct themes: early city history, an annual music festival, walking trails and activities in parks.
History and Events
Ocoee Christian Church has been a congregation since 1883. The Withers-Maguire House was built in 1888 and is suitable for smaller events such as club celebrations and rehearsal dinners. As available uses may change, confirm the current terms before planning an event there. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Sites in 1997. Along with the settlement history at Starke Lake, these offer a range of historical points of interest, from the agricultural beginnings to later places of cultural heritage.
The Ocoee Fall Music Festival is held annually and attracts more than 20,000 people. If the festival is a focus of your trip, check the specific event dates for your preferred travel period. The city’s history reflects longer-term historical developments; with the festival, however, the date determines whether it falls during your stay.
Park Trails and Water Activities
The park amenities listed vary by activity and location. Vandergrift Central Park has a fishing pier. Montgomery Ave. Park has a walking trail, Palm Park has a walking path, and Healthy West Orange Wellness Park has a boardwalk. Those interested in trails and parks can choose from several different options rather than treating all the amenities as the same kind of walking route.
Prairie Lake Park offers several options in one place: visitors can walk the nature trail, launch non-motorized boats and fish from the pier. The same park therefore offers both a trail and options for boating and fishing. Florida Friendly Garden has a different focus: it is intended to show Ocoee residents water-conscious, resource-efficient Florida-Friendly landscaping, adding local themes related to landscaping and water use.
Planning for Recreational Activities
A signed liability waiver is required by the Ocoee Parks and Leisure Services Department to use Ocoee Action Sports Park. Check the current requirement before your visit, as it may change. Ocoee Family Aquatic Center offers swimming lessons organized into levels according to participants’ swimming abilities. Reservations for public and private pool parties must be made at least 7 to 10 days in advance. As these reservation guidelines may also change, it is recommended that you check the current terms when planning.
The activities involve different planning considerations: a signed waiver is important at Action Sports Park, swimming lessons are grouped by ability, and pool parties require advance notice. When choosing activities, you can distinguish whether you want to take a lesson, plan a party or use the sports park.
