A botanically significant garden with historic recognition, a canal-side trail and parks with varied offerings give Pinecrest plenty of options for a visit. First consider whether you’re most interested in plants and garden history, observing nature or sports facilities. The specific places and what they offer can help you choose stops that suit your interests.
Garden History and Tropical Plants
Pinecrest Gardens is a 14-acre botanical garden at the southwest corner of Red Road and Killian Drive. It is home to more than 1,000 varieties of rare and exotic tropical plants and palms. The collection is set among native tropical hardwoods and cypress trees, combining botanical diversity with the garden’s characteristic vegetation.
The property’s history is also part of its character: on October 17, 2011, the National Park Service added it to the National Register of Historic Places. In the Upper Garden, paths preserve patterns from Parrot Jungle’s original tilework. From the Upper Garden terrace, you can look out over a lake where resident swans and various wading birds can be found. These details offer different points of interest: historic garden traces along the paths, and water and birdlife by the lake.
Guided botanical tours covering history, botanical collections and ecology are offered on selected Saturdays. Tours take place in suitable weather and require advance registration. Free parking is available for visitors to Pinecrest Gardens.
Trails, Nature and Parks with Varied Offerings
Red Road Linear Park offers a 2.5-mile lighted trail for walking and cycling along the Snapper Creek Canal. The park also offers opportunities to observe birds, wildlife and aquatic life along Snapper Creek. The trail and nature-watching appeal to different interests, so you don’t have to make the same activity the focus of your visit.
Coral Pine Park combines a 2.9-acre pine rockland preserve with lighted walking paths, pickleball and tennis courts, and a playground. Those focused on sports can visit Flagler Grove Park, a three-acre sports park with lighted artificial turf fields for lacrosse and soccer. The ten-acre Suniland Park offers baseball and football fields, batting cages, basketball courts and a playground. The two sports parks differ in their size and facilities; which amenities matter to you depends on the activity you have planned.
Other options are designed for specific uses: Pawcrest Park is Pinecrest’s only off-leash dog park, with separate areas for large and small dogs. Evelyn Greer Park has a walking and jogging path. The options range from a designated pine rockland preserve and sports fields to places for dogs and exercise.
Plan for the Market and Events
The Pinecrest Farmers Market takes place every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pinecrest Gardens. As the schedule may change, check the dates before your visit. The market and botanical tours offer different reasons to spend time at the Gardens: one visit can focus on the market, another on a guided exploration of history, plants and ecology.
Jazz is also part of the events calendar: Pinecrest Gardens presents the 17th annual season of Jazz at Pinecrest Gardens for 2026/2027. Schedules and performers may change, so check the dates in advance. Along with its parks and gardens, these events provide a varied overview of Pinecrest, from botanical culture and nature-watching to sports and events.
