Jensen Beach lies between the ocean and a river. Beaches, fishing opportunities and a tranquil downtown shape the town. Along the coast and on the waterways, activities include fishing, boating, sailing, paddling and scuba diving. When planning your stay, you can first decide whether to focus on the beach and water or on art, local history and events.

Ocean, Beach and Waterways

Indian Riverside Park is located in Jensen Beach on the shore of the Indian River Lagoon and covers 63 acres. It features an interactive fountain that is open daily. Since operations may change, it’s a good idea to check the current schedule before your visit.

For paddling, there is a designated route through the Indian River Lagoon: it is 16.2 miles long and runs between Jensen Beach and Hobe Sound. This route is part of the Indian River Lagoon Aquatic Preserve.

Jensen Beach is a guarded beach. Beach wheelchairs are available there free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. If you plan to use a beach wheelchair, keep this arrangement in mind and check current availability before your visit.

Boating enthusiasts also have a specific place to go: Jensen Beach Mooring Field, off the Jensen Beach Causeway, accommodates 56 boats on the Indian River Lagoon. It accepts both visitors seeking short-term moorings and customers seeking long-term moorings. Since reservation terms may change, checking them before making plans is recommended.

Local History, Art and Events

The Jensen Beach History Museum is dedicated to the town’s heritage and to collecting, preserving and sharing the stories of its people, institutions and culture. Its permanent collection includes dozens of artifacts and images. The town’s history as the “Pineapple Capital of the World” is also part of Downtown Jensen Beach’s cultural heritage and gives the downtown area a distinctive historical theme.

Jammin’ Jensen takes place on the streets of Downtown Jensen on Thursday evenings. The Jensen Beach Fine Art & Craft Show is an annual art event in Downtown Jensen Beach. If either event is important to your trip, check the dates and details in advance.

On Maple Street, the Jensen Beach Art Cottages are home to several artists who work there. The Mansion at Tuckahoe has been carefully restored to preserve its Southern elegance and Old Florida charm. It serves as a venue for weddings, receptions, social gatherings and special events.

Parks and Recreation

Pineapple Park has a 4,500-square-foot playground shaded year-round. The park also has athletic fields where local leagues hold their games. The Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast offers children and families hands-on activities, educational programs and cultural experiences.

Those interested in skateboarding will find concrete bowls with ramps and a street course at Pat Mark Rio-Jensen Skate Park. The park is connected to Langford Park by a walkway. For those interested in sailing, the US Sailing Center of Martin County in Jensen Beach is an official USFoil Hub for foil development and high-performance sailing programs.

Savannas Preserve State Park is accessible from Jensen Beach via Jensen Beach Boulevard. Since park conditions may change, check them before your visit.

Historic Places and Their Traces Through Time

Several places offer different perspectives on Jensen Beach’s history. Captain Henry Sewall’s House was built in 1889 and, after years of restoration by Martin County, opened to the public in November 2012. Check current access separately before planning a visit. The Mount Elizabeth Archaeological Site in Jensen Beach dates to 2000 BC.

More recent dates also mark the town’s history: Jensen Beach Christian Church dates to 1912, and the Stuart Welcome Arch in Jensen Beach to 1926. At over 125 years old, All Saints’ Episcopal Church is one of the oldest Episcopal faith communities in Southeast Florida. Together with the History Museum and the artists’ cottages on Maple Street, these places make up a cultural itinerary that is distinct from the beach and water activities.
