Quincy combines a historic walking tour with art, theater, and a unique park loop. Highlights include Quincy's 36-block Historic District, the Gadsden Arts Center & Museum, and the Tanyard Creek Park Loop.

Explore the Historic District

The Historic Quincy Walking Tour app features 71 stops in Quincy's 36-block Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A self-guided tour leads through the district and past preserved homes from before the American Civil War and around the turn of the century. In total, the Historic District includes 145 structures that serve as visible links to Quincy's past. A free 20-page walking-tour booklet with a map is also available for navigation. It can be picked up at the Quincy Main Street office, 104-A N. Adams Street, and at most downtown businesses. Check that the booklet and map are currently available before your arrival.

Architecture and local history

Quincy Academy is a Classical-style building that served the educational needs of the Quincy community until 1912. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The present-day brick building of Arnett Chapel AME Church displays a different architectural style: it was built in the Gothic Revival style in 1939. Comparing the two draws attention to the different architectural designs found in Quincy.

Historic Courthouse Square also brings together different building histories: Gadsden County Courthouse has been a defining feature of the square in the center of Quincy since 1912. Gadsden Arts Center & Museum is housed in the restored Bell & Bates Hardware Building, dating to around 1912, also on historic Courthouse Square. The museum hosts exhibitions of cultural and historical significance.

Art, studio, and theater

The ArtZone at Gadsden Arts Center & Museum includes a free, drop-in art studio. It is open every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to visitors of all ages. Since the hours are part of a current program, check the schedule before your visit. Quincy Music Theatre is the largest community theater in North Florida devoted exclusively to musicals, and presents six to seven productions per year. The distinction is useful when planning your visit: the ArtZone has a weekly time slot, while theater visits depend on that season's performances. Check the current schedule.

A park loop and a regional connection

Tanyard Creek Park Loop is in downtown Quincy. The easy, 0.7-mile loop is suitable for walking and running. State Road 12 runs directly through Quincy. In 1997, the Florida Legislature officially designated it as Gadsden County’s North Florida Art Trail—another cultural connection to the city and its region.
