Titusville combines theater and space history with nature trails in the city and surrounding area. When looking for a place to stay, you can tailor your plans to your interests: architecture and museums, sites commemorating space exploration, or time on trails through varied landscapes. Options include both urban cultural attractions and opportunities for hiking, cycling, horseback riding and paddling.
Cultural History in Titusville
The Historic Pritchard House is an example of Queen Anne architecture and was built in 1891. The Emma Parrish Theatre opened to the public on September 21, 1984. Today, the Titusville Playhouse is located in the Historic Emma Parrish Theatre. The nonprofit theater has two separate performance venues in Downtown Titusville. As the venue arrangement may change, check the current venue information before your visit.
At the American Space Museum, gallery topics range from Mercury, Gemini and Apollo to the Shuttle program, women in space, uncrewed missions and the future of space exploration. The exhibition layout may change; if you have a specific visit in mind, check which gallery topics are currently on view. Space View Park honors astronauts and the men and women who helped the United States lead the world in space exploration. It is also a place to watch rocket launches. This opportunity depends on launch operations and park conditions, which you should check before planning a visit.
The North Brevard Historical Museum displays historical artifacts, photographs and written records from the region. The Titusville Veterans Memorial Fishing Pier provides access to the Indian River Lagoon; the pier is also a place to watch rocket launches.
The Train Like an Astronaut Walking Path runs through Downtown Titusville, Veteran’s Park and Space View Park. Five signs in historic Downtown Titusville show progress up to one mile. Since June 27, 2018, Titusville has been recognized as Florida’s second Trail Town.
Nature Trails, Preserves and Paddling Routes
The Enchanted Forest Sanctuary lies on the southern edge of the city. The Management and Education Center introduces visitors of all ages and abilities to the preserve’s distinctive natural features. A naturalist-led hike takes approximately 45 minutes and covers about one mile of the 4.5-mile trail network.
At Fox Lake Sanctuary, a marked, four-mile paddling route runs from Fox Lake to South Lake. Visitors can also use a seven-mile trail network for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The preserve’s habitats include wet prairie, mesic flatwoods and oak-saw palmetto scrub.
At Wuesthoff Park, a half-mile nature trail and a boardwalk pass through wetlands, hardwood hammocks and upland pine forests. A paved bike path runs around half of the park. The trails here vary by activity and length: the nature trail and boardwalk are complemented by a dedicated cycling route.
Landscapes in the Surrounding Area
In the area around Titusville, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge includes coastal dunes, saltwater marshes, managed impoundments, scrubland, pine flatwoods and hardwood forests. Opportunities for birdwatching, nature exploration and fishing add to the landscape experiences; seasonal activities may vary.
Canaveral National Seashore is a dynamic barrier island shaped by dunes, coastal hammocks and Mosquito Lagoon. Visitors can hike among ancient Timucua shell mounds.
