Orange Cove is an agricultural community in the eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada. For travel, the town is a 30-minute drive east of Freeway 99. Agriculture, local history, and its seasonal connection to spring offer different considerations when choosing a destination.

Citrus Growing and Spring Connections

Oranges and lemons have a year-round growing season across hundreds of acres in Orange Cove. In spring, the community is also a destination for the annual Fresno County Blossom Trail event. These are two distinct points of reference for planning a trip: citrus growing shapes the town’s identity year-round, while the Blossom Trail brings a seasonal focus in spring. If you want to plan your visit around the event, check the specific dates for your travel year in advance.

The Fresno County Blossom Trail in the Fresno Destination

In the Fresno destination, visitors can drive along the Fresno County Blossom Trail and photograph the blossoms from the roadside, since the orchards are privately owned.

Local History in Two Years

Two consecutive years offer a glimpse into the past. The Orange Cove Santa Fe Railway Depot was built in 1913 and contributed to the commercial and agricultural development of the San Joaquin Valley over the years. Orange Cove was founded and named by Elmer M. Sheridan in 1914, before large-scale citrus growing began. The depot’s importance to the San Joaquin Valley and the founding of the community thus offer two historical perspectives: the development of the valley and the beginnings of the town itself.

Getting Your Bearings in Town

The Arbor sculpture is located at Orange Cove’s eastern entrance on Highway 63 and was dedicated on April 12, 2007. James O. Eaton Memorial Park, by contrast, is downtown, just north of City Hall. These are two clearly distinct landmarks for getting your bearings: the Highway 63 entrance and the area immediately north of City Hall.

Community Life and Educational Programs

The Orange Cove Community Center is used for recreational, social, educational, and cultural services and activities. It offers basketball, baseball, and girls’ volleyball for children in grades K–8. The Community Life Garden is located within five miles of Orange Cove, in a shared setting with Reedley and Dinuba. In 2025, it offered horticultural and wellness education. The programs mentioned therefore differ in both location and focus: recreational and community activities at the Community Center, and horticultural and wellness education at the garden.

Fresno in the Wider Travel Picture

The broader Fresno destination includes twelve county-level parks, two fishing access points, and a boat launch with parking at Shaver Lake. Millerton Lake State Recreation Area is a foothill reservoir in the Sierra Nevada, located in Fresno and Madera Counties. This adds other nature and recreation themes to the Fresno experience.
