In Crossett, historic cabins, music and waterside activities come together. This gives you different ways to plan your trip: you can explore local history, plan around an event, or set aside time for nature and outdoor activities. The combination you choose depends on what you want to focus on during your stay.
Cabins, History and Local Architectural Styles
The Wiggins Cabin was built in the 1830s. After a fire in 2002, an exact replica was built in its place. Yale Cabin Camp operated from 1946 to 1966. The Yale Cabins were moved to Crossett City Park and are now located beside the park.
The Old Company House Museum offers a different perspective on architectural history. It combines a former sawmill worker’s shotgun-style house with a handmade replica of a pioneer cabin from the 1830s. Tours are available by appointment. Crossett is also noted for its role in the development of sustainable forestry.
Centennial Park is on Main Street, across from City Hall, and features attractive gardens and a fountain. Together with the cabin and museum exhibits, it offers a range of cultural points of interest: historic buildings and their architectural styles on the one hand, and a park with gardens and a fountain on the other.
Planning for Music and Events
The Wiggins Cabin Festival is held on the grounds every year. Dates and programs may change, so check the latest information in advance if you want to plan your trip around the festival. The Jeffress School of Gospel Music takes place every summer at Beech Street Baptist Church in Crossett. Confirm dates and registration details before your visit.
Crossett City Auditorium has about 1,000 seats and hosts concerts, recitals, and other performances and events throughout the year. Specific programs may vary. If you want to attend a particular performance, include its date in your plans and check it in advance.
Water, Outdoor Activities and Other Places to Visit
Lucas Pond covers 51 acres and has fishing piers. A 2.8-mile hiking trail runs along the shore, and interactive signs highlight the park’s natural features. Boats with electric or battery-powered motors are permitted on most of the lake. Access is via a boat ramp. The same body of water therefore offers fishing piers, a waterside trail, and a limited selection of permitted motorboats.
Scott McCormick Sports Complex has five baseball and softball fields and six soccer fields. Event dates may vary, so it is a good idea to check the game or event calendar if you are planning around a specific date. Crossett City Pool has a pool area with a level-entry access point, a diving platform, and a spiral slide.
The covered Crossett Farmer’s Market is on Main Street. It has produce boxes, water, electrical outlets, and restrooms. Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge is near Crossett and offers self-guided trails on land and water. Water levels and management restrictions can affect access, so check conditions before your visit.
