At Chiricahua National Monument, you can observe the dark night sky from Massai Point, the Echo Canyon Trailhead or the campground. Coronado National Memorial offers a different perspective: its panoramic views extend to the border between the United States and Mexico, as well as the San Pedro River Valley. Here, nature can be experienced both through sweeping landscape views and by observing the night sky.
Tourism themes promoted by Cochise County include hiking, cycling, birdwatching, food, wine and stargazing.
Rock Formations and Sweeping Views
At the heart of Cochise County, the Texas Canyon Nature Preserve is located at the Amerind Museum. The preserve offers eight miles of scenic trails among distinctive boulders, oak and mesquite grasslands, and protected wildlife. Four trailheads lead to moderate hiking trails suitable for most hikers. Those interested in landforms will encounter both striking rock formations and open grassland areas here.
From a Long-Distance Trail to a Cave
The Arizona National Scenic Trail begins at the Arizona–Mexico border at Coronado National Memorial and runs to the Arizona–Utah border. Its two endpoints give the trail an expansive scope. Coronado Cave offers a different way to explore: visitors reach it via a 0.5-mile, moderately steep trail. The cave is approximately 600 feet long, 20 feet high and 70 feet wide. This makes it possible to factor the trail to the cave and its approximate size into your visit planning.
