Trussville offers several distinct ways to spend your time: local history, outdoor activities, and cultural events or activities. The Sports Complex combines a trail with sports fields; ACTA, the car show, and the Gateway Pavilion offer other options. When planning, you can first decide which focus matters most to you.

History at the Museum, Heritage Hall, and Historic District

The Cahaba Project opened in April 1938. The Trussville History Museum in Heritage Hall gives visitors a glimpse into the lives and times of the region’s earliest settlers, as well as its development through industrialization and beyond. The museum displays photographs, letters, and personal items belonging to Trussville residents. Heritage Hall also preserves yearbooks, newspaper articles, books, artifacts, photos, and other historical materials about Trussville. Photos and personal items give local history a biographical perspective, while yearbooks and newspaper articles provide additional records. Another historical landmark is the Cahaba Homestead Village Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Sports Complex: Trail and Sports Fields

The Trussville Sports Complex covers 128 acres. A four-mile hiking and mountain biking trail runs through the complex. The trail is technically challenging, with several climbs and sharp turns along the route. Several trailheads are located throughout the complex—a practical detail when choosing your starting point. If you choose the trail, consider not only its length but also its climbs and turns. The complex also has sports fields for organized sports such as football, baseball, softball, and soccer. This makes it easy to distinguish between the options: the trail is for hiking and mountain biking, while the fields are for organized sports.

Outdoor Options Along the Cahaba River

Access to the Trussville Cahaba Blueway is via stone steps leading down to the water. One section of the Cahaba River near Trussville is technically challenging: when steering a boat, you must navigate around rocks and other obstacles. Check water levels and conditions before using the river. The Cahaba River Greenway is a year-round destination for walkers, runners, and families. These offer different points of reference when choosing an outing: on the Sports Complex trail, consider its length and technical difficulty; at the Blueway, the access via stone steps and river conditions; and on the Greenway, the year-round appeal for walkers, runners, and families.

Theater, Car Show, and Gateway Pavilion

ACTA produces local theater performances with community members and others from the region, presenting productions four times a year. If a performance is important to your stay, check whether one falls during your travel dates. Trussville’s annual car show features vehicles of all kinds; families can enjoy food from local food trucks. The Gateway Pavilion offers an outdoor space for eating, drinking, or relaxing. When planning, you can weigh a theater performance, the car show, and spending time outdoors at the pavilion without having to combine them into a single itinerary.

Plan Your Trip and Accommodation

Trussville has direct access to Interstate 459 and several connections to Interstate 59. If you’re driving, these road connections offer a guide for planning your trip from farther afield.
