Get to know Ozark through a range of different attractions: Ed Lisenby Lake, with its walking trail and neighboring Archery Park, as well as murals, a museum and places of remembrance. If you’re planning a stay, you can first decide whether to focus on the lake and outdoor activities or on art and history.

Lake, Walking Trail and Archery Park

Ed Lisenby Lake is a 92-acre, award-winning state fishing lake in a 390-acre park in Ozark, Alabama. There is a 3-mile walking trail by the lake, and Ozark Community Archery Park is right next door. Dale County State Public Fishing Lake, also known as Ed Lisenby Lake, is stocked with largemouth bass, sunfish, redear sunfish and channel catfish. For planning purposes, the lake, trail and neighboring Archery Park offer distinct options for outdoor activities.

Murals with Distinct Themes

The Wilbur Jackson Mural is 82 feet long and 26 feet tall; it was completed in 2021. The Dale County Music & Theater Mural depicts people from Dale County who have achieved success in music or theater. The Welcome to Ozark mural is located at 936 Andrews Avenue next to D.A. Smith Middle School. It features an M60 tank in honor of the Alabama National Guard’s 131st Armored Tank Battalion and commemorates Ozark’s military heritage.

Museum and Remembrance

The Dowling Museum | Ann Rudd Art Center offers changing exhibitions and educational programs. It is located at 114 E. Broad Street in Ozark. The exhibitions and educational offerings add another cultural option to the mural themes.

The United States Army Warrant Officer Museum opened on February 23, 2024, at The Holman House in Ozark. The Carillon and Bell Tower features a 37-bell carillon that commemorates personnel who have served at Fort Rucker since 1942.

Seasonal Offerings and Event

Ozark Pickleball & Sports Complex offers seasonal “mini” pickleball classes. They are reserved for members with valid membership status who have completed at least the beginner course. Check the current class schedule and membership requirements before planning.

The Claybank Jamboree Arts and Crafts Festival is an annual family event with a tradition spanning more than 50 years. If you want to plan your visit around it, check the festival dates in advance.

Choose Your Focus for Your Stay

When looking for a vacation rental in Ozark, you can use these themes as a starting filter: the lake and walking trail, or a focus on murals, the museum and remembrance. This way, your choice reflects which aspects of the city you want to make the focus of your stay.
