Grace Bay Beach is characterized by white sand and turquoise waters. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between Bight Reef at the western end of Grace Bay and the barrier reef near the destination: Bight Reef is the closest shore reef, while the barrier reef is accessible only by boat. This makes a shore reef and a boat-accessible destination two distinct options.
Beach and Reefs
Bight Reef is also known as Coral Gardens. Two nearby access points, with parking and walking paths, lead to the beach at and near Bight Reef. At the barrier reef, the focus is on coral, fish and underwater views; good snorkeling is not accessible from shore. Access conditions may vary, so it is recommended that you check current conditions before visiting.
Golf at the Royal Turks and Caicos Golf Club
The Royal Turks and Caicos Golf Club is in the Grace Bay area and has an 18-hole, par-72 golf course. Designed by Karl Litten, the course features rugged limestone formations and waterways. Herons, egrets and flamingos live on the course; wildlife sightings vary.
The championship course measures 6,705 yards from the black tees; there are four sets of tees in total. Water features come into play on six of the first nine holes and seven of the back nine. The course layout and tee configurations may change. These figures describe specific course features, but not how a round feels for individual players.
The club also has two lit tennis courts, open to members and the public. Since details of public access may change, check availability before visiting.
Festival and History
Maskanoo is a festival on Providenciales. Since 2009, it has offered a modern interpretation of Bahamian Junkanoo parades and local Massin'. Maskanoo features a parade in Grace Bay on Boxing Day, Junkanoo bands, floats, costumes and musical performances by local bands. If the festival is important to your travel plans, check current event announcements.
The National Museum & Heritage Site in Grace Bay on Providenciales displays a small collection of indoor and outdoor exhibits about the history of the Turks and Caicos Islands over several centuries. The current location is a placeholder until a modern museum building is built.
The Turks and Caicos Islands in Regional Overview
Beyond Grace Bay, the broader destination of the Turks and Caicos Islands offers more options. Across the Turks and Caicos Islands, water sports such as jet skiing, tubing, wakeboarding, parasailing, e-foiling and kiteboarding are available. Boat trips go to uninhabited cays, beaches and reefs. These activities and destinations are part of the broader regional perspective on the island group.
