The Terme Çayı provides a geographical point of reference in the area around Dedeköy: It initially flows from west to east, then turns northeast and joins the Acıçay near Dedeköy. This makes it possible to distinguish its course from the urban landscape of the broader destination.

Çankiri: Culture and Nature in the Broader Destination

The Tatlıçay flows in a curve through Çankırı, dividing the city into two parts. This distinguishes it from the Terme Çayı, whose described course joins the Acıçay near Dedeköy: The two rivers represent different geographical connections within the destination.

Historic Sites and Cultural Themes

Çankırı Castle stands on a small hill north of the city. The castle contains a rock-cut tomb dating from Roman times; it is also used as a pilgrimage and recreation site. Its location, tomb, and present-day use give the castle several distinct historical and cultural associations.

The surviving Taş Mescit complex includes the Darülhadis section and the tomb of Cemaleddin Ferruh. A relief depicts two intertwined snakes with their heads facing one another. Today, the motif is used as a medical symbol. The preserved building complex thus connects a tomb with an image whose significance is known beyond the site itself.

The Tarihi Çamaşırhane was faithfully restored in 2006 and converted into a museum in 2016. The Buğday-Pazarı (Hazımiye) Madrasa offers a different cultural focus: Elements of Yaran culture and regional clothing are displayed there. The two sites therefore offer different perspectives—on the one hand, the history of a restored building; on the other, cultural elements and clothing.

The Çivitçioğlu Madrasa serves as a cultural center. Courses in Ebru, calligraphy, and relief design are offered there. As course schedules can change, check the current dates in advance. The Ferit Akalın House of Radio and Communication presents the history of communication through local archives, stories, and documents, using interactive exhibits. The house also has a place where visitors can write and send letters and postcards; check whether this service is available before your visit.

Nature and Views of the City

In the broader destination of Çankiri, the 36-hectare wooded Kenbağ Nature Park is located in the Kenbağ area of the central district of Çankırı. It offers opportunities for daytime recreation. From the Cam Seyir Teras, visitors can look out over the city from above. These are two different points of interest: a designated natural area and a viewpoint overlooking the city.

The Çankırı Salt Mine is also a regional attraction in the broader destination of Çankiri: Salt has been extracted there for around 5,000 years, and it is one of the oldest and largest salt mines in the world. If you are planning a visit, check the current visitor information in advance.
