A trip to Gölbaşı can focus on a range of themes: handicrafts along the walking path in Atatürk Coastal Park, cultural heritage and arts institutions, and nature and sports attractions elsewhere in the municipality. If you are looking for a hotel in Gölbaşı, this distinction can help you decide which side of the destination you want to shape your stay.

Handicrafts and Cultural Heritage

Sevgi Çiçeği Art Street runs along the walking path in Atatürk Coastal Park in Gölbaşı. You can find copperwork, egg art, knife-making and pottery there. These four craft traditions give the street a clear focus. Gölbaşı’s Museum of Intangible Cultural Heritage offers a different cultural perspective: the Municipality of Gölbaşı and the Turkish Institute of Folklore Application and Research at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University (THBMER) established it to preserve Gölbaşı’s intangible cultural heritage and pass it on to future generations. The street brings together specific craft traditions, while the museum focuses on preserving and passing on intangible heritage.

Art and Exhibitions in the Wider Area

Müze Evliyagil is located in İncek, in the wider Gölbaşı area. Its 750-square-metre exhibition space spans three floors; it also has a sculpture garden, a screening room and a library. Selected works from a collection are presented in exhibitions with different themes, which are curated at intervals. Alongside the institution dedicated to preserving intangible cultural heritage, this is a museum with a different exhibition approach. These offer two distinct cultural perspectives: passing on heritage on the one hand, and exhibitions drawn from a collection on the other.

Nature at Lake Mogan and in the Municipality

Numerous bird species live, breed and rest at Lake Mogan and in its surroundings. Forty species breed there, and 30 species are observed year-round. These two figures highlight different aspects: breeding populations and sightings throughout the year. Because of their ecological and recreational importance, the wetlands and marshes around Lake Mogan were designated the Gölbaşı Special Environmental Protection Area on October 22, 1990, by Council of Ministers Decision No. 90/1117.

The Gölbaşı love flower (Centaurea tchihatcheffii) is an endemic species threatened with extinction. Elsewhere in the municipality, Tulumtaş Cave, with its stalactites, stalagmites and columns, is considered an important natural heritage site in the Gölbaşı area. Including its side passages, the cave is 549 metres long in total. The natural attractions thus range from wetlands and marshes to the geological formations of a cave.

Sports Facilities

The Turkish Billiards Federation International Sports Complex is one of the sports attractions in the wider municipality. The facility has two floors and covers 2,500 square metres; its tournament hall has eight tables and seating for 500 spectators. The complex was designed to host World Cup tournaments. Its tournament-focused design adds a sporting perspective to the area’s cultural and natural attractions.
