At the Ban Si Than handicraft village, visitors can watch the making of Khit cushions step by step: It begins with sewing the covers and continues through shaping and filling them to produce the finished cushion. Ban Si Than is known for this craft in Yasothon Province; cushions can be purchased directly on site. This offers a close look at both the production process and the finished craft. Anyone interested in local work and its individual steps will find a concrete way to connect with the local craft tradition here.

To reach Ban Si Than, take Highway 202: between kilometer markers 18 and 19, turn right onto a paved road and follow it for another three kilometers. Check the route before setting out in case the roads have changed.

River, Cuisine and Tradition in Ban Fa Yat

Community tourism in Ban Fa Yat includes boat and raft trips on the Chi River. Local cuisine is also part of the offering, including herbal frog curry, chili paste with fermented fish and herbs, fish larb, and fish soup made with fish from the Chi River. River trips and the dishes offer two different ways to experience community tourism. Individual providers’ offerings may change.

Local traditions also include Malai Khao Tok garlands. Made from puffed rice, they are carried as a Buddhist offering to Wat Ho Kong in Ban Fa Yat. The focus here is on presenting the offering—a cultural practice distinct from a river trip or a dish.

Religious Sites and Rituals

Phra That Yasothon is a revered Lao-style chedi believed to be more than 1,200 years old. It enshrines sacred relics of Phra Ananda, one of the Buddha’s most important disciples. Phra That Ku Chan is a significant religious sanctuary venerated by people from Yasothon and neighboring provinces. A ritual water-pouring ceremony is held there every year. That Kong Khao Noi, meanwhile, is an ancient Khmer chedi with a brick-and-stucco Buddha image. The Buddha image is ritually bathed during the Thai New Year celebrations in April.

Wildlife and Seasonal Events

The Phaya Khan Khak Museum features displays about more than 500 toad species worldwide, as well as frogs, bullfrogs and other amphibians in Thailand. This gives it a different focus from the religious sites and craft traditions: the displays center on animal species.

Yasothon is also known for the Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival, celebrated at the beginning of the rainy season. Alongside the ritual bathing of the Buddha during the April New Year celebrations, this offers a seasonal comparison: one ritual is tied to April, while the festival takes place at the start of the rainy season. If you would like to plan your trip around either occasion, check the exact dates in advance.
