A cave that is not a natural grotto offers an unusual introduction to Sisaket: Tham Naga Thibodi is a cave replica at Wat Pa Sri Mongkol Rattanaram. Its design is inspired by the Naga legend. Artificial stalactite and stalagmite formations and depictions of nine Naga lineages define the site. Religious storytelling takes visible form here in a recreated cave world.

Temples, Stories and Historical Place Names

The Maharat Museum is on the third floor of the main chedi at Wat Pa Sri Mongkol Rattanaram. It presents the duties and activities of Thai kings as well as the local history of Si Sa Ket Province. This brings two perspectives together within the temple complex: a religious legend in a designed cave and history in a museum. If you see temple complexes as more than just buildings, you will find specific themes here relating to culture and the past.

Wat Phra That Suphan Hong, also known as Wat Ban Wan, features another distinctive temple design. Its ubosot stands on an artificial Suphan Hong ship. Its dimensions are precisely stated: 5 meters wide and 13.60 meters long. The ship-shaped base gives the structure a distinctive form, while the measurements make its proportions tangible.

The old town of Si Sa Ket, formerly called Muang Kukhan, was located near Ban Prasat Si Liam Dong Lamduan in what is now Tambon Duan Yai, Amphoe Wang Hin. Here, the focus is on an earlier place name and a historical location. The local history and temple architecture complement each other, offering different kinds of discovery: one is explored through names and location, the other through religious forms and stories.

Waterfalls and Rock Landscapes

Sida Waterfall is a small natural waterfall in Ban Ta Nuat, Tambon Rung, Amphoe Kantharalak, Si Sa Ket Province. Its landscape includes a gorge and a natural rock surface. Tad Hin Waterfall is also known as Kaeng Tad Hin or Tad Huai Thip. Near the Phra Viharn mountain range, it is a natural attraction and swimming spot, where clear water flows over broad rock surfaces.

Different features take center stage at these two waterfalls: the description of Sida Waterfall focuses on its gorge and rock surface, while Tad Hin Waterfall also offers a place to swim and clear water flowing over broad rock slabs. Huay Wang Yai Waterfall offers another contrast in nature. It is located in the Phanom Dong Rak Wildlife Sanctuary, surrounded by rare tree species, and has water year-round.

Another viewpoint, Pha Phaya Goopree, is in the Phanom Dong Rak mountain range near the Thai-Cambodian border at Chong Sa-Ngam. There is a large kroporee statue and a rock garden said to be more than 170 million years old. Pha Mor E Deang offers views across a sea of mist surrounded by mountains. Access conditions may vary; check them before your visit.

Waterfronts, Reservoir and Road Directions

Suksamran Beach is a waterfront attraction on the Huai Samran Reservoir. The atmosphere is peaceful and reminiscent of the sea, with mist over the water in the morning. Ra Si Klai Dam offers a different experience: it is a large concrete dam that holds back the Mun River between Ban Huay and Ban Don. Together, these places show different relationships with water, from a misty reservoir shore to a structure on a river.

A specific road route is provided for directions to Preah Vihear National Park: from Mueang District, National Highway 221 leads to the park, which is in Amphoe Kantharalak in Si Sa Ket Province. Road conditions may change; check the latest situation before setting out.

When looking for a hotel in Sisaket, you can first consider which themes you want your trip to focus on: temples and history, waterfalls, or viewpoints. These priorities can help you tailor your accommodation choices to your own plans.
