Amphoe Kaeng Khoi can be explored through several distinct themes: town history told through archaeological finds, religious devotion and remembrance in the town of Kaeng Khoi, and other destinations in the district’s other tambons. Kaeng Khoi City Museum and Wat Kaeng Khoi are in the town; Pha Sadet Phak and Krok I Dok Waterfall are outside the town but in the same district. For trip planning, this distinction helps you separate visits to Kaeng Khoi itself from destinations elsewhere in the district.
Town History at Kaeng Khoi City Museum
Kaeng Khoi City Museum is on the same grounds as the Kaeng Khoi Subdistrict Municipality office and is housed in a two-storey building. Through models and archaeological finds, it presents the town’s history, including the Dvaravati period. The models and finds offer different ways to explore the town’s history: the exhibition connects tangible archaeological evidence with an account of historical development. Visitors especially interested in the town’s past and its archaeological evidence will find a clear thematic focus here.
Remembrance and Religious Culture at Wat Kaeng Khoi
Wat Kaeng Khoi is designated as a cultural attraction. Visitors can pay their respects to Phra That Chedi Si Pa Sak there. Remembrance is another theme: a monument commemorates Kaeng Khoi residents who died in the war and Japanese war victims; their remains were brought together at the monument. Visiting the chedi and remembering those commemorated at the monument are two distinct cultural aspects of the same place. The memorial event is held annually from 2 to 4 April in Kaeng Khoi and commemorates the victims of the air raids during the Second World War. Every year on 2 April, relatives attend a memorial ceremony for the victims of the Second World War air raids at Wat Kaeng Khoi. If you are planning a visit during this period, check the dates for the year of your trip.
Other Destinations in Amphoe Kaeng Khoi
Outside the town of Kaeng Khoi, but in the same district, Pha Sadet Phak is in Tambon Thap Kwang. Visitors can pay their respects there at a monument to King Chulalongkorn and Luang Pho Pha Sadet. Luang Pho Pha Sadet is also known as Luang Pho Kaysit or Luang Pho Pha Dam. The site is accessible by car and train. This sets Pha Sadet Phak apart from the museum and temple in town: its focus is a named monument and paying respects to the people commemorated there.
Another attraction outside the town is Krok I Dok Waterfall in Tambon Chaom. The steep hiking route passes through dense forest, crosses streams, and includes climbing sections with rope handrails. Community guides accompany visitors to the waterfall’s seventh tier. The difference is clear when choosing an excursion: Pha Sadet Phak is accessible by car or train, while the steep trail, stream crossings, and guided hike to the seventh tier define the Krok I Dok trip.
