The reclining Buddha at Wat Pa Pradu is 11.95 meters long and lies on its left side. Mueang Rayong District brings together temple history and historic townscapes with coastal and natural attractions. This lets you choose different focuses when planning your trip, from religious heritage and old houses to marine life and mangrove trails.
Temples and Religious History
Wat Pa Pradu is an old temple dating from the Ayutthaya period. Its reclining Buddha is a distinctive feature of the temple complex: the figure lies on its left side and measures 11.95 meters. Wat Khot Thimtharam also holds a special place in local tradition. It is described as the oldest temple in Rayong Province and was built in Buddhist Era 2007.
Wat Khot Thimtharam is home to the Luang Pho Khao image. It is more than 500 years old and revered by the people of Rayong. Another historic destination is the Shrine of King Taksin in Rayong, first built in 1934 within Wat Lum Mahachai Chumphon. These sites take you from the history of temple buildings to the religious images and the veneration associated with them.
Historic Quarter and Museum
Yomjinda Road preserves old houses in Rayong’s historic quarter. The Rayong City Museum on this road is dedicated to Rayong’s history and displays old photographs and historical objects. It is also known as Ban Satyudom. The exhibits include household items and black-and-white photographs of Rayong in the past. The museum is housed in a wooden house more than 90 years old.
The quarter therefore offers more than a single exhibition: the museum conveys Rayong’s history through pictures and objects, while the preserved old houses along Yomjinda Road form another historic aspect of the neighborhood. Visitors particularly interested in urban history will find two different ways to explore it here.
Coast, Nature and Marine Life
Mae Ramphueng Beach is approximately 12 kilometers long. Activities available there include swimming, water sports, kayaking and snorkeling; providers and conditions may vary. The office of Khao Laem Ya–Mu Ko Samet National Park is located right by the beach, in Phe in Mueang Rayong District. At Khao Laem Ya, a nature trail follows a bridge over the sea, with views of savanna-like grasslands. The beach is therefore a place for activities on the water, while the trail focuses on the landscape.
A different coastal landscape characterizes Suan Son Beach in Klaeng Subdistrict: a shaded road lined with pine trees runs along the coast. At Rayong Aquarium, you can see live marine animals, including rare species. Coastal landscapes and marine life thus add a distinct focus to the district’s historic attractions.
Mangroves and City Park
In the area of Phra Chedi Klang Nam, a nature trail passes through a 500-rai urban mangrove area whose preservation is being promoted. This area brings nature observation together with mangrove conservation. Check the condition of the nature trail before visiting, as maintenance conditions may change.
Suan Sri Mueang is a 70-rai public park with safe exercise stations for older visitors, a children’s playground and a concrete sports court where several sports can be played. The Ho Phra Phuttha Angkhiros hall is also located in the park and houses the Phra Phuttha Angkhiros Buddha image. The park, sports facilities and religious image bring together various public and cultural attractions in one place.
Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests
If you plan to do activities at Mae Ramphueng, check the current providers and conditions. It is also a good idea to check the condition of the nature trails before visiting.
