Tha Yang District in Phetchaburi Province brings together a range of travel interests: Puek Tian Beach offers a coastal escape, while historic communities, archaeological sites and local specialties provide other points of interest. When choosing a hotel, it helps to first consider which of these places and themes will shape your trip. Then compare the specific location of your accommodation with the places you plan to visit.
Beach and Coastal Attractions
Puek Tian Beach is a wide, clean beach with white sand. Sculptures of Phra Aphai Mani, a mermaid, Phi Suea Samut, Sudsakorn and Manin Mangkon stand on the beach. The figures come from the Thai literary work “Phra Aphai Mani” and give a visit to the beach a literary connection alongside its coastal scenery.
An older set of directions takes you from Tha Yang along Phetkasem Road to the beach. Turn at the intersection with Irrigation Canal No. 2, then continue for about 15 kilometers. As road conditions may change, check the route before setting out. The distance of about 15 kilometers is an approximation.
Trading History and Community Life
The old community of Nong Chok has a history spanning more than 200 years. It was once an important trading district in Tha Yang District, where goods were transported mainly by boat. Two-story wooden houses dating from the reigns of Rama V and Rama VI are characteristic of its traditional architecture. Their features combine Chinese and Thai influences. Visitors can walk past the old houses, shop for local products and experience community life.
The Tha Yang community also played an important historical role in trade, but in a different context: it was an important trade and goods exchange center for Phetchaburi Province. Together, the two places illustrate different scales of trading history: Nong Chok as a former district trading area with boat transport, and Tha Yang as a provincial trading center.
Archaeology, Tradition and Nature
Artifacts from the Ban Khao Krajiw archaeological site are displayed at the Kalyanawutthikorn Museum at Wat Khao Krajiw. The site itself is considered one of the area’s significant local attractions. Archaeological findings suggest that it dates to the Dvaravati period (Buddhist centuries 12–16). This distinguishes the location where the artifacts were found from the place where they are displayed.
In Ban Khao Krajiw, Tai Song Dam traditions include religious merit-making rituals, traditional games and the preparation of traditional foods. These offer insight into different aspects of the culture, from religious customs to playing and eating together.
Another natural attraction is Pha Nam Yod Waterfall in Khok Rup Subdistrict. It is considered an appealing ecotourism destination. Alongside the beach and cultural heritage, the waterfall offers another distinct sightseeing option in Tha Yang District.
Local Specialties
In the Tha Yang community, visitors can choose and sample local specialties and offerings. These include Tha Yang-style Pad Thai, Thong Muan Thip, Tha Yang Fresh Market and desserts from Mae Boon Lon. The examples include both food and local products, as well as the market as a place to visit. They offer a distinct way to experience the Tha Yang community alongside its trading history.
When planning your trip, you can consider beaches, culture, archaeology, nature and local cuisine as separate areas of interest. Choose the places that matter to you and check their locations and routes before planning specific days to visit them.
