At the Chong Khao Khat Skywalk, the view extends all around over the Ubolratana Reservoir; at sunset, there is also a clear view of the Phu Kao ridge. The glass bridge is 16 meters wide and 21 meters long and is located in Phu Kao–Phu Phan Kham National Park in Non Sang District. For Nong Bua Lam Phu, this viewpoint is a striking introduction: nature experiences, caves and archaeological traces are all part of the region’s character.

Views and Rock Landscapes

Phu Kao in the national park combines forest, habitats for numerous wildlife species, caves, waterfalls, rocky areas and unusual rock formations. A different landscape awaits at Tao Toe Waterfall Forest Park on Highway 210 in Nong Bua Lam Phu: this shady recreational spot is characterized by a diverse range of trees and rocks of various shapes. The two places show how varied nature can be in the region—from expansive reservoir views to rock formations and forest.

Caves and Traces of the Past

Erawan Cave in Na Wang District can be reached from the foot of the mountain to the cave entrance by climbing more than 600 steps. A large Buddha statue stands at the entrance. The cave also includes a spacious chamber that can hold several hundred people and a passage leading to a cliff face overlooking the fields. The caves of Phu Kao contain paintings and engravings made by prehistoric people. Together, they offer a cave landscape and archaeological evidence, though these are distinct experiences.

Temples and archaeological sites also preserve different chapters of history. Wat Tham Klong Phen, a well-known forest temple at the foot of the Phu Phan mountain range in Mueang Nong Bua Lamphu District, houses a museum containing the ashes and personal religious belongings of Luang Pu Khao Anālayo. The wax museum dedicated to Luang Pu Khao Anālayo is housed in a building designed to resemble three rock blocks stacked on top of one another; inside is a seated wax figure for visitors to pay their respects.

Wat Tham Suwannakhuha is registered as an archaeological monument. It contains antiques and a statue of King Chai Chetthathirath from Vientiane. The Non Phrao site preserves evidence from prehistoric times as well as the Dvaravati and Lan Xang periods; it is estimated to be about 2,500 years old. At Non Wat Pa, a stone Buddha protected by a Naga and archaeological remains are the main attractions. These remains are attributed to Khmer art from its heyday. Another historical memorial is the monument to King Naresuan at a shrine on the eastern shore of Nong Bua.

Fossils and Natural History

The Museum of 150-Million-Year-Old Shell Fossils and Dinosaur Fossils in Tambon Non Than is located on the grounds of the Tambon administration, about 25 kilometers north of the provincial capital. It documents dinosaur bones and footprints discovered in Non Than, including finds from Ban Huai Duea. Also on display are Late Jurassic shell fossils discovered in Ban Huai Duea. The subject matter extends beyond individual finds: it covers the universe and solar system, Earth and the origins of life, the evolution of plants, animals and humans, dinosaurs, and fossils.

Market Life and Traditional Crafts

At the community-oriented Huai Duea Market, local residents sell seasonal vegetables and agricultural produce, as well as forest products, mushrooms, fruit, bamboo shoots, low-pesticide vegetables and red ant eggs. Offerings may vary by season. Ban Khong Sawan Ceramic Handicraft Center offers a different glimpse into local traditions: the village in Mueang District is known for producing pottery using traditional methods. It is about 17 kilometers from Nong Bua Lam Phu town, on Highway 210 toward Udon Thani.

Community-based tourism is also among the region’s cultural offerings. Wat Suwannaram’s Morality Community in Suwannakhuha District was selected as a model community in 2024. The selection focused on opportunities to take part in ceremonies and learning experiences, as well as the joint development of products based on local traditional knowledge. Confirm specific programs in advance. The Erawan Cave Mountain Festival is an annual tradition for the people of Na Wang District and Nong Bua Lamphu Province. The 2025 edition took place from April 10 to 15 and invited visitors to climb the mountain and pay their respects to Phra Phuttha Chai Si Maha Muni Trilokanat; check the dates before planning your trip around the event.
