Ban Langsod’s approximately 8-kilometer-long beach is a distinctive feature of Ko Lanta Noi: it has white sand and clear water. The Siri-Lanta Bridge connects Ko Lanta Noi at Ban Langsod with Ko Lanta Yai at Ban Lo Duyong. Ban Langsod is therefore both a named coastal landmark and a point on the bridge route; other local features range from forest areas to houses from the island’s former community.

Nature: Forest Areas and National Park

Ko Lanta Noi is home to the Khlong Tonod and Lat Bo Nae national reserve forests, which cover a combined area of approximately 15,726 rai. The Langsod and Khuan Bakan Ko forest area is reported to cover approximately 2,004 rai, and the Ko Talabeng national reserve forest approximately 1,150 rai. The combined area of Khlong Tonod and Lat Bo Nae is therefore considerably larger than the other two areas mentioned. Ko Lanta Noi is one of the major islands in Mu Ko Lanta National Park, which covers 134 square kilometers. The area figures describe individual named forest areas; the national park places Ko Lanta Noi within a wider protected-area framework.

Likae Pa at special events and seasonal Running Shells, according to a 2020 report

Old houses from Ko Lanta Noi’s former island community can still be seen. They are visible traces of the built environment, while Likae Pa is a cultural tradition that is now performed only rarely. Likae Pa is shown mainly at important cultural events and weddings. This distinction is relevant when planning your trip: the houses can still be seen, but Likae Pa is tied to specific occasions and should not be counted on as a program available at any time.

A report dated December 13, 2020, describes how numerous so-called Running Shells were collected, prepared and sold to tourists each year in December, January and February at Ban Langsod beach. The report identifies these three months as the season. If you would like to include this seasonal feature in your plans, check in advance whether collection, preparation and sales are still taking place.

Krabi as a Wider Destination

The wider destination of Krabi offers other natural attractions at different named locations. Ko Phi Phi Don is in Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park and has the two crescent-shaped bays of Ao Tonsai and Ao Loh Dalum. Ko Phi Phi Le is also in this national park and is a limestone island with steep sea cliffs and bays. Ko Hong is part of the Hong Islands in Than Bok Khorani National Park and is a limestone island. Its lagoon has emerald-green water; boats can enter it, and swimming is possible. At high water, only a single channel leads in and out. At low tide, Talay Waek forms a white sandbar connecting Ko Kai, Ko Thap and Ko Mo. The region’s natural attractions therefore differ in their conditions, too: Ko Hong offers a navigable lagoon, while Talay Waek is a sandbar that forms at low tide.
