Khuk Khi Kai is a square tower with unusually precise dimensions: each side is 4.40 meters long, the structure is 7 meters high and it has two rows of ventilation openings. It offers a particularly tangible way to discover Laem Sing’s history.

Historic Sites in Paknam Laem Sing

Khuk Khi Kai in Paknam Laem Sing was built in 1893 during the Franco-Siamese conflict to imprison Thais who resisted the great power. One historical interpretation holds that the upper floor was used to keep chickens, whose droppings fell on the prisoners held below.

Nearby, at Laem Sing Pier, stands the Red Building. It was built by the French in 1893 and served as a guard post and accommodation for soldiers guarding Paknam Laem Sing. Both structures date to the same year but served different purposes: Khuk Khi Kai was a prison tower, while the Red Building was a military guard post with accommodation.

Another historic site is Piree Fortress on Khao Laem Sing in Tambon Bang Kachai. The monument is near the Independence Chedi. Together with the structures in Paknam Laem Sing, it offers another perspective on the district’s historic sites.

River, Wildlife and Handicrafts

The Taksin Maharaj Bridge, also called Laem Sing Bridge, is in Amphoe Laem Sing and spans the Chanthaburi River for about 1,060 meters. This approximate length gives the river crossing a precise scale. In Paknam Laem Sing, Oasis Sea World puts on shows featuring rare pink dolphins. Details of the animal program may change; check the latest information before your visit.

In Bang Sra Kao, visitors can observe the making of Chanthaboon mats from February to May. The process includes drying, dyeing and cutting the sedges. February to May is the relevant time frame for this experience. This seasonal craft therefore offers a different focus from the historic structures in Paknam Laem Sing.

Bang Sra Kao also has covered excursion boats for about 6 to 10 people, as well as small fishing and fiber boats. The approximate capacity refers to the covered excursion boats. If you’re planning a trip, confirm availability before booking.

Ko Proet: Views and Tides

Ko Proet’s main viewpoint is at Pirate Cave, also called Swallow Cave. You can reach it by walking uphill. Bat Cave has different access conditions: its entrance is closed at high tide and open at low tide, allowing visitors to enter by small boat. Check the current trail conditions, tides and access locally before planning these experiences.

Chanthaburi in a Broader Context

Laem Sing is part of the wider Chanthaburi destination. Wang Suan Ban Kaeo was once Queen Rambhai Barni’s residence there for 18 years. The Kung Krabaen Bay Mangrove Forest Education Center offers a different perspective: a wooden walkway leads through its distinctive mangrove ecosystem. Both topics broaden the picture of Chanthaburi, while Laem Sing’s own sites offer their own historic and handicraft highlights.

The distinction between location and time period provides a practical guide for your search.
