Hausen am Albis, also known as Hausen (Dorf), is in the southwest of the canton of Zurich in Switzerland. The half-day hike to Lake TĂĽrlersee starts at the Post bus stop in Hausen am Albis.

Hiking with a range of highlights

From the flat panoramic trail, the view stretches across the Chrutzelen moorland to Lake Zug and the Alps. On the hike, you can observe numerous waterbirds, including mallards, grey herons and pochards, as well as coots and great crested grebes. The combination of a flat trail, moorland and birdwatching gives this tour a distinctive natural character.

The Ämtlerweg offers a broader regional perspective: the 46 km trail leads through the Säuliamt, past cultural monuments and historically significant sites, as well as nature reserves rich in flora and fauna. Its length and cultural and natural themes set it apart from the half-day hike at Lake Türlersee.

The Hausen am Albis–Oberrieden hike passes through the Sihlwald nature forest and ends at Lake Zurich; it is available year-round. The described tours also differ in their destinations: the panoramic trail across the Chrutzelen is the highlight of the hike to Lake Türlersee, while the route to Oberrieden focuses on the nature forest and its endpoint at Lake Zurich.

Village walk and architectural history

The Historic Village Walk of Hausen am Albis features information panels at 43 historic buildings in the municipality and is open to the public. An interactive map complements the walk with additional texts and images. The walk therefore offers a distinct way to explore local history alongside the hikes.

The Reformed Church in Hausen was demolished and enlarged to its present size in 1751; this resulted in a rectangular hall church with an interior length of 22.3 m, a width of 10.7 m and a height of 7.7 m. The interior length is slightly more than twice the width; the height is approximately one-third of the length.

Another archaeological trace is the foundation of a Romanesque church found in Hausen, which was approximately 11.8 m long and 7 m wide. An important chapter in the Swiss silk industry came to an end at the Weisbrod factory complex in 2012, after export conditions had remained very poor for a long time. The historical arc thus runs from Romanesque church foundations, through the construction of the church in 1751, to the turning point in the silk industry in 2012.

When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to decide first what you want to focus on: Lake Türlersee offers a half-day hike with views and birdwatching, while the village walk and architectural history offer a local cultural theme. The Ämtlerweg or the hike to Oberrieden add a regional route, nature forest and Lake Zurich to the options. This way, you can assess Hausen am Albis according to the balance of nature, hiking and local history you have planned.
