More than 20 different orchid species and several gentian species grow in the Türlersee area. Most of the lake lies within the municipality of Aeugst am Albis, shaping a place where nature, trails and culture offer different focal points for a stay.

Landscape between the lake, moorland and mountain ridges

Aeugst am Albis and its hamlets of Aeugstertal, Müliberg, Habersaat and Wengi lie almost in a circle around the wooded Aeugsterberg. The Reppisch flows through the upper Reppischtal valley. The differences in elevation also give an idea of the area's topographical range: the municipality's lowest point is in Wengi in the Jonental valley at 536 m above sea level; its highest point is on the ridge of the Albis at 885 m above sea level.

The Hexengraben offers a nature feature of its own. Once a bay of the lake, it is now a moorland area that provides valuable habitat for rare marsh plants. This means different aspects of the landscape can be found side by side in the area: the plant diversity around Türlersee and the Hexengraben's moorland habitat. If you are interested in plants and habitats, you can consider these two features separately when planning, rather than treating them as the same kind of nature experience.

At Türlersee and along the trails

At Türlersee in Aeugst am Albis, you can hike, swim, watch birds and walk around the lake. These activities offer different things to focus on: a hike or walk takes in the path around the water, while birdwatching and swimming appeal to other interests. The Bolet recreation area adds to the options with a range of play equipment and a barbecue area. As facilities like these can change, check their current status before visiting.

A longer hike also passes through the area: the route from Felsenegg to Affoltern am Albis goes via the Albis Pass and Türlersee, then continues through Aeugst. Another trail runs from the hamlet of Uttenberg via the Rebhüsli and the village centre towards the Zug border and the hamlet of Baaregg. The named waypoints and endpoints help distinguish the two routes. Details of the route via Uttenberg may change, so check the trail information before setting out.

Culture, collections and protected buildings

The protected buildings include the church in Aeugst am Albis and the Spycher in Habersaat; both are protected at cantonal level. KommBox is an exhibition space for projects and presentations, with exhibitions changing over time. These offerings differ in character: one focuses on the protection of a building, while the other presents changing projects.

The Pegasus Smallworld Toy Museum displays an extensive collection dating from 1900 to 1980, with well over 2,000 objects. This includes more than 700 animals made by Steiff. The museum and the mine tunnel run by the Bergwerk Riedhof association open to visitors, schools and groups on selected Saturdays. If you plan to visit, check the opening dates before travelling.

Plan your stay around what interests you

The offerings allow for different kinds of planning: Türlersee has several activities to choose from, while visits to the mine are limited to selected Saturdays. So if you want to see the mine, check for a suitable date first and plan the rest of your trip around it. You can also start with what interests you when looking for a holiday apartment: decide whether lake activities, a trail or a cultural offering will shape your stay, then check the details of the specific accommodation.
