In Allaman, castle history, paths through the vineyards and activities on the water come together. You can reach the village by train from Lausanne; the station is about 500 metres from the village. This makes it possible to plan your journey around a specific arrival point, while local outings cater to different interests: village history, cycling, hiking or time by the lake.

Castle History and Village Culture

The Château d’Allaman is first documented in 1379. In 1530, Bernese reinforcements burned down the château. It is also known as Château de la Paix and features a medieval architectural style. Set on an esplanade in the village, it offers views of Lake Geneva. The château is privately owned and cannot be visited; check access again before planning a visit.

As an event venue, the château offers rooms for private and business events. The building includes reception rooms, a cellar and a traditional medieval kitchen. The grounds feature a 978 m² courtyard of honour, used for team-building, garden parties and sporting events. If you are planning an event there, confirm dates and availability directly with the venue.

There is architectural and local history to discover beyond the château, too: the old church has a pulpit decorated with coats of arms. The village landscape also includes a rustic church and imposing houses, associated with residents who worked as winegrowers, tree nursery owners, ceramicists, merchants and fishermen. The Aubonne and Promenthouse fortified lines are part of the area’s military history. Both were intended to block access to the plateau in the area around Allaman. The Aubonne line was built for anti-tank defence along natural trenches.

Vineyards and Trails Around Allaman

Several routes explore the surrounding area in different ways. The Etoy–Allaman walking trail leads to the Allaman vineyards and past the château. If you prefer to cycle, you can take the easy, family-friendly circular route through the winegrowing villages of Perroy and Allaman. A hike starts at Allaman railway station and leads via Féchy and Bougy-Villars to Signal de Bougy leisure park. The routes therefore differ not only in how you travel, but also in their destinations: from the vineyards and château grounds to the leisure park.

The path to Lake Geneva offers two different landscapes: it runs either through kiwi plantations or along the banks of the Aubonne. Tombeau Mayor offers views of Lake Geneva, Savoy and Mont Blanc. This viewpoint and the paths to the lake provide further ways to experience the landscape around Allaman, alongside its vineyards.

Beach, Harbour and Kayaking

The long, tree-lined Plage d’Allaman is a place to relax or cool off in the lake. The beach has parking, showers, shaded areas, a refreshment bar, lawns, gravel and a raft. Dogs must be kept on a leash. The small natural harbour of Les Batiaux lies in green surroundings and is used by boaters and walkers.

For time on the water, Following John offers guided sea-kayaking trips from Allaman along the shores of Lake Geneva. Half-day and full-day trips are available; a sea kayak, life jacket and waterproof bag are included. A four-hour kayaking route runs on Lake Geneva between Allaman and Morges. The time estimates help you gauge the length of the outing: check dates, availability and the latest details of each offer in advance.
