Rorschach unfolds between the lakeside promenade, harbour and a richly varied cityscape. From the wide bay, the view stretches across Lake Constance to the German shores near Lindau and Friedrichshafen. The hills of Appenzellerland and a broader Alpine panorama are also part of the views. The area between the harbour, railway station and old town is easy to explore on foot. For a day of swimming, the lido is close to the train, bus and harbour. Numerous parking spaces are available in front of the lido; check their exact availability before travelling.

City history between the lakeshore and old town

The cityscape features Baroque townhouses, attractive old villas and an industrial outer district with a former workers’ settlement. The Mariaberg monastery complex is another highlight. Almost the entire municipality is listed in the Federal Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites of National Importance (ISOS). Particularly noteworthy architectural details include a Gothic cloister and a former chapter house. Rorschach was granted market rights in 947—a specific historical milestone for the city.

The Rorschach bathing hut is also the subject of preservation efforts. A plan presented in June 2026 proposes a faithful reconstruction to preserve the protected historic building. The historic concrete structure is intended to retain its original form and appearance while also meeting today’s requirements for structural integrity, durability and water protection.

Museums, art and events

At the Museum im Kornhaus, interactive learning stations explore topics from the history of the city and Lake Constance. More than 50 stations focus on optical illusions, mathematical magic, and writing and communication. Exhibits on life on Lake Constance and on Rorschach’s population, industry, trades and commerce are also there for you to touch, try out and explore.

Forum Würth Rorschach is the museum space at Würth Haus Rorschach and is based on the internationally oriented Würth Collection, which comprises more than 20,000 works. It presents changing art exhibitions on various themes across approximately 800 m². At Jazz Night Rorschach, the bands stay at their respective venues. The audience can move between venues or remain in one place, making it possible to experience the evening at several locations or enjoy it at a leisurely pace in one spot.

Playtime and swimming

Fägnäscht is considered the largest indoor playground in Eastern Switzerland and is suitable for children aged one to twelve and their parents. It covers approximately 2,000 m² and offers, among other things, a climbing maze, trampolines, a mini football pitch, electric cars, ball cannons and a large slide. For toddlers, the Chäferfest has its own play area with an obstacle course, large Lego bricks and various wall games.

The facilities at Strandbad Rorschach include two swimming pools, a paddling pool and a 65 m-long waterslide, as well as diving towers at heights of 1, 3 and 5 m, a beach volleyball court, a children’s playground and a football pitch. Facility details may change with future renovations; check the current facilities before your visit. There is also a restaurant with a garden terrace and an attached hostel, as well as a kiosk selling snacks, ice cream and drinks. Food and drink options may vary by season.
