Les Geneveys-sur-Coffrane lies in the southwest of the Val-de-Ruz basin in the Neuchâtel Jura, on the eastern foothills of Mont Racine and at an altitude of 862 m. The village raises three practical questions for planning a trip: Which landscape should shape your outing, how can you assess an activity based on its elevation, and what cultural history gives the destination depth? The answers range from open Jura views to a guided FELCO experience and archaeological and historical traces. This lets you plan your time around specific interests.

Jura landscape and rural character

From the Centre du Louverain, you can enjoy views of the plateau and the Alps. At Mont Racine, the landscape is open and unobstructed in every direction; Mont Racine is listed at 1,439 m. The Chemin chouette N°7 offers views of Creux du Van, Lake Neuchâtel and the Alps. The views differ mainly in what they take in: the plateau and Alps from the Centre, an open panorama from Mont Racine, and the distant views mentioned above from the Chemin chouette N°7. Your choice therefore depends on which view interests you most.

Several individual farms on the Jura heights belong to Les Geneveys-sur-Coffrane. This settlement pattern adds a concrete aspect of rural character to the viewpoints.

Trails and the FELCO experience

The Parcours des Geneveys-sur-Coffrane starts at the Centre sportif and has an elevation gain of 90 m. This provides a specific planning figure for anyone who wants to assess an activity based on its elevation profile. It distinguishes the trail as an activity from the viewpoints, where the landscape itself is the main attraction.

The FELCO experience offers a different kind of visit. It includes a guided tour of the factory, the Espace FELCO and the Atelier FELCO. Visitors interested in a guided tour will find a clearly defined focus here, alongside the landscape and trails. The factory and the two named spaces shape this experience, so you can weigh it independently of whether views or physical activity matter more to your trip.

Architecture, art and history

The Centre du Louverain also has an architectural connection: it was designed by André Gaillard. The Catholic Chapel of the Good Shepherd is a work by Dino Biancolin. In front of the school stands Le Lynx, a bronze sculpture by Robert Hainard dating from 1970. These different cultural forms sit side by side: architecture, a Catholic chapel and a sculpture. They offer concrete points of interest for travellers who want to include architecture and artworks in their choice of destination, as well as landscape.

Les Geneveys-sur-Coffrane is a place in the canton of Neuchâtel and the Val-de-Ruz region; its former status as a Swiss municipality is part of its history. Under the Ancien Régime, the village first belonged to the Seigneurie de Valangin and later to the Mairie of the same name. From 1486 to 1827, it formed a municipality together with Coffrane and Montmollin. A Neolithic hammer axe was also found in the area. The find takes the historical perspective back to a much earlier period and adds an archaeological trace to the administrative and cultural history.
