Bevaix combines a prehistoric pile-dwelling site with a fishing museum, cultural offerings, hiking trails and a pebble beach. The locality belongs to the municipality of La Grande Béroche in the canton of Neuchâtel. It lies at 475 m above sea level on a plain in front of the southern Jura slopes, about 50 m above the shore of Lake Neuchâtel. Neuchâtel is around 11 km to the southwest as the crow flies. You can focus your stay according to your interests: pile-dwelling history, culture, hiking or the lakeside.

Pile-dwelling history and fishing

Bevaix – L’Abbaye 2 is one of the prehistoric pile-dwelling sites in the canton of Neuchâtel that have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Écomusée de la pêche et des poissons offers a different historical perspective. It is located in Bevaix at a protected and preserved natural site and presents an extensive collection of objects in a former fishing site near the harbour.

The permanent exhibition and the outdoor information panels are accessible at all times; private guided tours can be arranged on request. Individual walk-in visits are free of charge, and donations are welcome. If you are planning a guided tour or the visitor arrangements are important for your plans, check the latest information in advance.

Culture and routes of varying lengths

Moulin l’Aristoloche is a cultural venue with performances, concerts and exhibitions throughout the year. As the programme may change, it is worth checking the current events before your visit. The Société de développement organises occasional exhibitions at Galerie Trin-na-niole; if you have a particular exhibition in mind, check the current programme with the local organiser.

There are routes of varying lengths to choose from for exercise. The Parcours Vita in Bevaix is 2.5 km long, has an elevation difference of 80 m and is rated moderate. Another route, also rated moderate but considerably longer at 12.1 km, is a forest hike through the Forêt de Bevaix that descends from the Montagne de Boudry to the plain. The two options therefore differ mainly in distance, while having the same difficulty rating. Details of the Parcours Vita may change following maintenance work; check the route information before your visit if it is important for your plans.

The multi-day Cluny Way reaches Bevaix from Saint-Aubin and continues from there along the lakeshore, past the tip of Cortaillod, towards Corcelles-Cormondrèche. Near Bevaix, it passes the former La Lance Charterhouse. This offers a longer route beyond the local hiking options, one that continues beyond Bevaix.

Lakeside, food and events

Plage de la Pointe-du-Grain is a pebble beach. Swimming conditions and facilities may vary; check the latest information before your visit. The Buvette de plage La Pointe-du-Grain offers fondue, tartares and fried fish. Dishes and opening hours may change, so it is advisable to check before your visit.

For regional products, the Marché des saveurs at Bevaix Abbey offers produce from the Neuchâtel terroir and the surrounding region. The Fête de la Miaou takes place every year on the last weekend of August in the community garden in Bevaix. If you would like to plan your stay around this festival, check the specific event dates. This lets you include culture, food and a visit to the lakeside as different focuses in your travel plans.
