In Weggis, you can make trails along Lake Lucerne, cultural history and a ride to Rigi Kaltbad the focus of your stay.
Lakeside Trails and the History of Weggis
A special historical landmark is the Weggis lido: It opened in 1919 and was Switzerland’s first mixed-gender lido. The Weggis Culture Trail also explores local history. Its short and long routes run along Lake Lucerne and tell the story of tourism on the Lucerne Riviera. This lets you combine a lakeside walk with a cultural history theme. If you plan to follow the Culture Trail, check the app’s availability and current content in advance.
Circular Walk or FoodTrail?
The easy “Circular walk Weggis - Hertenstein” is 7.43 kilometres long. It starts in the centre of Weggis, passes through Hügeri and Eggisbüel to Herrenwald on the Hertenstein peninsula, and offers views of Lake Lucerne and the mountains along the way. The route also includes traditional farmhouses and Herrenwald, through which it runs. Route details may change; check them before your trip.
Another way to combine a walk with local businesses is the Weggis FoodTrail. It covers about 10.5 kilometres on foot and takes you to traditional and surprising businesses with a story. In terms of distance, it is a longer option than the circular walk. Participating businesses may change, so check in advance which ones are currently included. The two options can therefore be compared by distance and theme, without assuming a walking time.
Chapels Between Cultural Heritage and Vineyards
The Catholic All Saints’ Chapel dates back to 1623. Its interior is distinguished by wall paintings and an elaborately ornamented ceiling; today, the chapel is a protected historic monument. It has 50 seats and is suitable for small weddings. If you are planning such a celebration, check the current conditions in advance.
EggisbĂĽhl Chapel offers a different landscape setting: It stands on a rise above a vineyard and overlooks Lake Lucerne, green vineyards and BĂĽrgenstock. This chapel is also suitable for small weddings and has 35 seats. The seating figures make the two venues easy to compare, but do not replace checking the arrangements for each event.
Ride to Rigi Kaltbad and Getting Oriented Locally
The aerial cableway takes you from Weggis to the village of Rigi Kaltbad in ten minutes. If you plan this trip, check the timetable and operating hours in advance. This keeps the stated journey time distinct from the time needed for the entire outing when planning your day.
For planning other activities, the Weggis Tourist Information office is right next to the boat landing stage. It provides advice on planning activities in the Weggis Vitznau Rigi wellbeing region. This gives you both specific trail options and a local point of contact for planning activities.
