A moor on the Lindenberg high plateau, old farmhouses from Central Switzerland and several ways to enjoy Hämikerberg give Hämikon a distinct rural character. The landscape, outdoor activities and local history can be considered as different focal points for a stay. The village lies northeast of Hitzkirch in the Lucerne part of the Seetal and belongs to the municipality of Hitzkirch in the Hochdorf district.

Moor and hikes on Hämikerberg

Hämikerberg brings together a variety of landscapes and activities. An idyllic moor lies on the Lindenberg high plateau. The mountain is used for hiking, jogging, mountain biking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing; which activity takes precedence depends on the season. One specifically listed route is the “Hike Above the Fog (Hämikon Berg – Horben – Hämikon Berg)”: it is classified as moderately difficult and requiring a moderate level of fitness, and is suitable for winter hiking. The start and finish are in Hämikon, Berg. This rating applies to this tour and not to all activities on Hämikerberg.

Another hike, “Views of the Lake from Hämikerberg and the Little-Known Ravine,” leads over Hämikerberg. The views there are considered particularly expansive and impressive. The route passes through Gitzitobel, regarded as a hidden natural oasis with remarkable biodiversity; more than 20 orchid species are said to grow there. The two named hikes therefore offer different points of interest: one has a specified difficulty level and suitability for winter, while the other focuses on the views and the ravine.

Chapel and rural architecture

The Hämikon Peace Chapel, also known as “Mary, Queen of Peace,” is made available to the Hitzkirch parish for Roman Catholic services. It was built in 1949–1950 in honor of the Virgin Mary and in remembrance of the Queen of Peace’s perpetual protection. On July 20, 1950, honorary citizen Bishop Dr. Hilarin Felder consecrated the chapel. On Hämikerberg, there is also “Klein-Ballenberg,” a collection of old farmhouses from Central Switzerland. Religious history and rural architecture thus offer distinct cultural themes alongside the landscape and hiking options.

An annual tradition and a culinary trail

The traditional Hitzkirch Ascension Day procession takes place every year on Ascension Day. Its route passes through Hämikon on the way to Müswangen. If you would like to include this tradition in your travel plans, check the date for the relevant year.

The Seetal Beer Trail begins at the Hämikerberg inn in Hämikon. At the start, guests can enjoy a first beer and a regional specialty at the Hämikerberg restaurant. The route then leads to two farmers, where visitors can sample two more beers. As the route, participating farms, tasting details and food offerings may change, check the latest information before your visit.

Plan activities and your journey

On the hike above the fog, you can also try game golf on Hämikerberg, a mix of golf and mini golf. Check the operating details in advance. To travel by bus, take bus 106 from Hitzkirch railway station to Hämikon, Berg; check the timetable before setting off. This lets you choose between a hike with specified moderate requirements, other activities on the mountain and the culinary trail.
