In Tschierv, options range from winter sports in Minschuns to trails that connect landscape and culture. The village borders the Swiss National Park; the Rombach themed trail and village traditions also give a trip a variety of focal points.

Winter sports and trails around Minschuns

The Minschuns family ski area is located in Tschierv. In winter, skiers and snowboarders can enjoy well-maintained pistes at altitudes of up to 2,700 metres. The high-alpine Plaun da l’Aua cross-country ski trail starts at Alp da Munt, at an altitude of 2,150 metres. These figures refer to different things: 2,150 metres is the starting point of the trail, while 2,700 metres is the altitude up to which you can ski in the ski area.

The Senda Alp da Munt–Alp Champatsch winter panorama trail starts at the Minschuns valley station. The trail leads from Lai da Juata through Swiss stone pine forests to Alp Champatsch, offering panoramic views of the Alps of Val Müstair and the Ortler. Forest paths that pass through wildlife protection zones should not be left. There is also a winter hiking and sledging trail from Alp da Munt via Alp Champatsch to Lü. The Lü–Tschierv sledging run is four kilometres long, leads through snow-covered forests and is illuminated along part of the route.

Hiking, cycling and wildlife

There are specific routes to explore in other seasons, too. The second stage of the National Park Bike Tour leads downhill from Tschierv through Fuldera to the entrance to Val Vau. Those interested in history, habitats and legends can find these themes along the «A la riva dal Rom» hiking trail. It starts at the source of the Rombach in Süsom-Tschierv and leads to Müstair.

Tschierv is associated with wildlife watching. The «Wildlife in Winter» excursion starts and ends at the valley station of the Minschuns ski area. Participants learn how to read animal tracks and trails and find out how animals survive the winter. Chamois and ibex can be spotted, and perhaps golden eagles and bearded vultures too; sightings are not guaranteed. The excursion is seasonal, and dates may change.

Village culture and local insights

The Reformed Church in Tschierv houses an organ built in 1807 by organ builder Josef Fuchs. Chalandamarz is an annual tradition held on 1 March. The procession makes its way through the streets of Tschierv to the end of the hamlet.

For an insight into local distilling culture, Antica Distilleria Beretta-Filli offers tours and tastings by appointment. Arrange a time in advance. Alongside trails and activities, this gives you the option of adding a pre-arranged visit to your stay without tying it to a fixed event calendar.

Plan your journey and accommodation
