More than 20 mineral springs rise around Scuol. Many are equipped with information boards, and the mineral water can be drunk. Water is also a central theme at Bogn Engiadina. Bathing, landscapes and local history offer different ways to enjoy a stay, without the need for a set excursion programme.

Mineral Springs and Bogn Engiadina

Bogn Engiadina has six indoor pools and two outdoor pools. The Roman-Irish Bath combines the beneficial effects of Roman bathing culture with the Irish bathing tradition. If the outdoor pools or seasonal operating details are important for your plans, confirm them before you travel.

Bogn Engiadina can be reached hourly by the Rhaetian Railway from Chur, Prättigau or the Upper Engadine to Scuol-Tarasp. PostBus services run several times a day from Scuol, staziun to Scuol, Bogn Engiadina. Check the timetable for your travel date.

Winter Activities on Motta Naluns

The Scuol Motta Naluns winter sports area has 26 pistes totalling 70 kilometres and 13 ski lifts. Infrastructure figures may change following renovations, so check the mountain railways’ current operating details before you travel. Tobogganing, scenic winter hiking trails and a high-altitude panoramic cross-country ski trail are also available. For these seasonal activities, check opening times and snow conditions in advance.

Village History at the Museum and on the Church Hill

In the village district of Scuol Sot, away from the main road, Stradun, is a village centre in the typical Engadine style. The Museum d'Engiadina Bassa is housed in ChĂ  Gronda, a historically significant building in the historic lower village of Scuol Sot. Built around 1700, the building offers insights into an authentic Engadine house and the traditional, simple Engadine way of life.

The permanent exhibition includes an Engadine parlour dating from around 1550, considered the oldest surviving Engadine parlour. The museum also displays prehistoric finds from the Lower Engadine and a valuable library of works of Romansh literature, spanning the period from the first Bible translations to the present day.

The church of San Geer also marks a point in history: it was built at the beginning of the 16th century and consecrated in 1516. There is evidence that the church hill was already inhabited in prehistoric times.

Hom Strom and Recurring Events

Hom Strom, also known as the Straw Man, is one of the recurring cultural events. Scuol schoolchildren celebrate this old tradition every year on the first Saturday in February. Visitors can watch the preparations in the afternoon and the burning in the evening. As arrangements may change each year, check the date and programme for the year you plan to travel.

The Museum d'Engiadina Bassa also offers a recurring programme: year-round, an aperitif is held in an old Swiss stone pine parlour on Monday afternoons at 2:30 pm. Check current booking availability in advance.

Hike Through the Clemgia Gorge
