Flims Waldhaus combines hiking trails and views at Lake Cauma and Il Spir with leisure activities at the Prau la Selva sports centre. Options range from a hike along a historic irrigation channel to indoor activities at the ice rink, whatever the weather. You can focus on the landscape, exercise or indoor activities.

Hiking between Connbächli, Conn and Il Spir

The Connbächli hike starts at the Lake Cauma car park in Flims Waldhaus and covers 3.2 kilometres to Conn. Allow about an hour for the walk. The Connbächli itself is six kilometres long, so the stated hike covers a different distance from the length of the stream. Since the early Middle Ages, its water has been used to water livestock in Conn; to this day, the Connbächli is considered a cultural asset of the municipality of Flims.

The Connbächli crosses footpaths at five points. You can shorten the hike at each crossing. If you would like to take a different route, there is a shorter hiking trail to Lake Crestasee starting in Flims Waldhaus. The 4-Lakes Hike starts at the Flims Waldhaus playground and leads through the Felsbach Gorge before returning to Flims Waldhaus. The routes therefore differ not only in their destinations, but also in how they are described for navigating the area: for the Connbächli hike, the distance and approximate duration are specified; for the 4-Lakes Hike, the starting point and return route are given.

From Flims Waldhaus, you can reach the Il Spir viewing platform in around 45 minutes via a hiking trail suitable for pushchairs. The platform is open all year round and offers a 180-degree view over the “Swiss Grand Canyon”. The time given makes Il Spir comparable with the approximately one-hour Connbächli hike, without implying any assessment of the trails.

Forest trail and summer at Lake Cauma

The path from Flims Waldhaus to Lake Cauma leads through the forest and is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. The lake is close to Waldhaus, in the heart of the Flims Forest. Swimming is possible there in summer, when the water temperature ranges from 17 to 24 °C. For planning purposes, Lake Cauma thus brings together two distinct aspects: the forest trail from Flims Waldhaus and the seasonal swimming opportunities at the lake.

Leisure activities at the sports centre

The Prau la Selva sports centre offers activities for different interests. The high ropes course has routes at heights of two to twelve metres. The skate park can also be used in summer. At the ice rink, you can skate whatever the weather; you can also play hockey or book a game of curling. Alongside the hikes, there is a choice of indoor activities and an explicitly seasonal outdoor offering.

Food, events and local history

The Wald & Wasser Culinary Trail starts in Flims Waldhaus, combines experiences in the landscape with culinary attractions and takes in three restaurants. It offers a distinctive way to combine nature and dining destinations. From April to October, the event hall at the Waldhaus Arena is available for conferences, trade fairs, concerts, product presentations, exhibitions and general meetings.

The area’s history also reaches far back: the history of Waldhaus Flims dates to the founding of the “Kur- und Seebadanstalt Waldhaus Flims” in 1869. This historical connection adds a sense of time to today’s trails and leisure activities in Waldhaus.

Getting to Flims Waldhaus

From Zurich, take the train to Chur, where you can change to the PostBus towards Flims-Laax and get off at Flims Waldhaus. The PostBus from Chur to the Prau la Selva sports centre also runs towards Flims-Laax; get off at the Flims Camping stop. Check the timetable before setting off. By car, travel from Zurich on the A3 to the Reichenau/Flims exit, then continue towards Flims/Disentis.
