Feldis is situated on a terrace on the slopes of the Stätzerhorn range and is the northernmost village among the mountain villages of Domleschg. Its high-altitude setting offers panoramic views, diverse flora and sparkling mountain lakes. Between village paths, flower meadows and circular hikes, you can tailor your stay to different interests: local history, an easy hike or mountain views.

Hiking trails with different highlights

“Flowers and Glacier Traces in Feldis (Flower Walk)” is an easy 6.1-kilometre route; walking time is around two hours. Highlights along the Flower Walk include a glacial erratic deposited by the Albula Glacier during the last ice age and the Thusisblick viewpoint. From there, the view extends across Domleschg and as far as Thusis. There is also a picnic area with a barbecue spot at the viewpoint; local safety guidance applies when using it.

The Flower Trail starts on the outskirts of Feldis and passes through species-rich semi-dry meadows. Another tour leads from Feldis via the Feldis Alp to the Dreibündenstein. This marks the only point where the former Three Leagues of Raetia, which existed until 1798, shared a common boundary. This hike brings together the mountain landscape and a specific connection to the region’s history, without confusing the village circular walk with the longer tour.

The Mutta Panorama Circular Trail is another option in its own right: from the chairlift’s mountain station, it passes the Raguta mountain hut, loops around Tgom Aulta at an altitude of 2,085 metres and returns to the mountain station. Along the way, views open up of Piz Beverin, Tödi and the Calanda range. If you would rather explore the village, you can take the Feldis walking trail. The circular route passes through the village and includes eleven historic stops.

Village history and orientation

Historic sites in Feldis include Stizunetta / Milk Centre. The building was constructed in 1916 as a milk centre, where Feldis farmers could sell their own milk and cheese. St Hippolytus Church is believed to stand on a pre-Christian place of worship. The Wildenstein inn is the oldest surviving inn in Feldis. These sites give the village walk a different focus from the panoramic routes in the high-altitude areas.

Another striking work is “The Thirteen”: a group of thirteen tall, slender female figures made from larch wood from Feldis. It stands on Mutta between Feldis and the Dreibündenstein. For additional guidance, a free MiniGuide brochure is available at the mountain station of the Rhäzüns-Feldis aerial cableway. It provides information about eleven selected sites or objects; allow around 45 minutes to use it. Check availability before your arrival.

Winter activities and access to the mountains

The sledging run from Mutta to Feldis is an easy five-kilometre descent with 504 metres of elevation loss. Snow and operating conditions vary seasonally. The winter sports area also offers skiing, three well-known sledging runs, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Feldis Ski School offers group lessons and private lessons; check the current programme before travelling in winter.

The natural ice rink at Alp Raguta measures 20 by 44 metres and is a five-minute walk from the Feldis-Mutta chairlift’s mountain station. In winter, you can go ice skating, play Bavarian curling and play curling there; skates can be rented on site. As the ice rink and skate rental are seasonal, check opening conditions before visiting. During its operating season, the Alp Raguta mountain hut offers refreshments, including typical Graubünden specialities.

You can reach Feldis by aerial cableway from Rhäzüns or by PostBus. A mountain road leads from Domleschg via Scheid. The Rhäzüns-Feldis aerial cableway and the Feldis-Mutta chairlift also provide access to the mountains in summer; operating dates and weather restrictions vary. Check the latest timetables and operating conditions when planning your trip. This lets you tailor your travel dates to your preferred focus: paths and history in the village, panoramic routes or seasonal winter activities.
