Versoix brings together educational walks, lakeside spots and cultural offerings. The Vadrouilles combine nature observation with local history; Port-Choiseul and Plage de la Bécassine offer different swimming spots, while Maison du Charron and Le Boléro are distinctive cultural venues. When planning your visit, consider whether you would like to allow time for a walk with QR-code audio descriptions, a stay by the water or a visit with a cultural focus.
Walks focused on nature and history
The two educational walks are called «Autour des Douves» and «Entre ville et lac». Each features around ten QR codes linking to audio descriptions of local fauna and flora, as well as historical anecdotes about nearby places. If you would like to make full use of the audio descriptions, bring a mobile phone with a QR-code reader. Allow around two and a half hours for «Entre ville et lac»: the walk runs from the Bordier car park to Parc de la Bécassine. This gives you an approximate time frame for the route, along with clearly identified starting and ending points.
The two names help distinguish the walks; a duration is given for «Entre ville et lac». This makes it possible to factor the approximate walking time into your day without assuming it is the same as the duration of the other walk. The audio topics make the Vadrouilles particularly appealing if you would like to explore nature and local history together.
Lakeside and swimming spots
Port-Choiseul has a pebble beach and a wooded park with barbecue grills, toilets and showers. A ramp into the lake is intended for people with reduced mobility and their companions. Swimming there is unsupervised. Swimming is also unsupervised at Plage de la Bécassine, which lies at the mouth of the Versoix River in the grounds of the Institut Forel. These details help distinguish the locations by their specific features.
The Anciens Bains were inaugurated on 18 June 1899 and completely redesigned in 2021. The area is used for relaxation and swimming; tiered seating and a shower are also provided. Check their current condition before your visit. Port-Choiseul, Plage de la Bécassine and the Anciens Bains offer different ways to spend time by the water. Swimming at Port-Choiseul and Plage de la Bécassine is unsupervised.
Cultural venues and local history
Espace Patrimoine is located in Maison du Charron, at Rue des Moulins 6, 1290 Versoix. The building was inaugurated in 1987. The Association Patrimoine Versoisien uses it for exhibitions and as an archive repository, and organizes exhibitions and conferences on history, art, crafts and popular traditions. The house thus connects a specific venue with a wide-ranging programme of local cultural activities.
Le Boléro complements this offering in Versoix-Centre-Ville: the cultural centre includes an exhibition gallery, a library and media library, and a restaurant, and is part of the town centre’s sociocultural infrastructure. While Maison du Charron is associated with the archive repository and the Patrimoine Versoisien association, Le Boléro brings together several cultural and community offerings in one centre.
Festichoc, landscapes and activity
Founded in 2005, Festichoc is a free family festival organized by the City of Versoix and dedicated to high-quality chocolate and the craft of making it. The programme includes tastings and sales, exhibitions of chocolate sculptures, activities and food stalls. The traditional exhibition features sculptures by aspiring chocolatiers from the canton of Geneva; family activities include a Favarger treasure hunt and an egg hunt. Individual programme items may vary from one edition to the next. If you are planning your trip around the festival, check the dates and the programme for that edition.
The Canal de Versoix is described as a shaded, green and peaceful route for a walk through residential areas. The Bois de Versoix offers a different landscape: the river of the same name runs through the forest, which is surrounded by farmland and nature reserves. The Centre Sportif de Versoix brings together a range of sports facilities, the municipal swimming pool and a recreation area. Specific facilities include a 400-metre athletics track with six lanes. Access is free and open to the public; check the latest information from the municipality before your visit.
