Céligny lies between Lake Geneva and the Jura. Lakeside areas, protected sites and historic buildings give the village different facets to discover during a stay: observing nature in Bondex, spending time at the beach and exploring local history at the church, presbytery and cemetery.

Landscape between the lake and the Jura

The Bondex nature reserve brings together woodland, meadows and wetlands. It covers 6.6 hectares and consists mainly of wet woodland. Almost 170 species of fungi have been recorded in Bondex. The wetlands are important for amphibian reproduction and serve as a resting place for migratory birds. Spotted orchids may also bloom in the meadows each spring; whether they can be seen depends on conditions.

The protected Roselière des Fourches offers a different perspective on nature by the lake: the reed bed can be observed from the lake by boat. In Céligny, therefore, an inland wetland and a protected stretch of lakeshore offer two distinct ways to experience nature.

Beach and practical information

Céligny beach is open to everyone and has a gently sloping, pebbly shore. A snack bar rents out a few stand-up paddleboards; there is also a plancha grill available. If you plan to rent a paddleboard, check availability in advance.

The CGN landing stage is at Chemin du Port 32, 1298 Céligny. Nearby, there is white-zone parking on Chemin de la Poissonnière. Céligny is also served by the 811 Céligny, Gare stop. These specific landmarks can help you plan your journey without assuming a particular connection or travel time.

Church, presbytery and historic traces

The Temple de Céligny is a Romanesque church with a single-nave layout, buttresses and a bell gable on the façade. It has been protected since 30 December 1921. Following a fire in 1991, the church was archaeologically surveyed and partially restored and rebuilt in 1992–1993. Both its architecture and later alterations are part of its history.

Within the church precinct, the Presbytère de Céligny was completed in 1727. It follows the design of an 18th-century residence, with a hipped roof, carefully designed façades and a walled courtyard. The Domaine de l'Elysée adds a longer architectural history to the picture. The estate was established in the 17th century; by 1684, it already included a medieval tower house. The manor house was built in 1771, and the Domaine has been classified as heritage since 24 March 1976. Access to the private estate should not be assumed.

The old, tree-lined cemetery is located at Brassus and contains several notable graves. Richard Burton is buried there. As a cemetery, it is a place where respectful behaviour is appropriate.

Village life and regional produce

The Le Clos area has been cultivated since the Middle Ages on a favourably oriented slope; it has vineyards, orchards and vegetable gardens. The Caveau at Le Clos de Céligny hosts receptions with tastings by arrangement. The room has seating for around 20 people.

At the Miellerie de Céligny, all the honeys are Demeter-certified, inspected by bio.inspecta and carry apisuisse's Label d’Or. Direct sales on site are by prior appointment; there are no fixed opening hours. Visits to the apiary are offered to school groups, during which children can, among other things, open and observe a bee colony. The Mini-Pousses format, intended for children under six, includes a honey tasting at the end of the visit.

CélAtelier also offers artistic and cultural activities for young people and adults, including jewellery-making, crochet and painting workshops, as well as book evenings. Check dates before visiting. The range therefore extends from nature observation and local history to pre-arranged visits and activities, without requiring a set programme.
