Thierachern brings together architectural history, landscape and a variety of activities. If you are looking for a holiday apartment here, you can plan your stay around a particular interest, such as cultural history, the adventure trail or a hiking route. The pump track and the area’s agricultural character are also distinctive aspects of the village.
Church, Mill Complex and Egg-Gut
Thierachern’s Reformed church is first mentioned in a document from the Diocese of Lausanne; its present form dates from the early 18th century. The building is a hall church with a three-sided apse and round-arched windows. Paintings featuring fragments of a biblical cycle are found on the north wall of the nave. The architectural design and the painted fragments offer different starting points for a cultural-historical perspective on the village.
The mill complex in Thierachern comprises mill buildings, granaries, a washhouse, a stately mill barn and three farms. The area around Egg-Gut is laid out differently: its buildings are grouped around a triangular square, with the Löwen inn on its eastern side. Comparing the two areas highlights different aspects: the mill complex brings together various buildings, while Egg-Gut is defined by the shape of the square and the location of the inn.
Village Character and Landscape
The layout of the streets and open spaces also contribute to the village’s character. The eastern section of Dorfstrasse follows a short, curving stretch along the open Glütschbach stream and has been preserved in its original state. Important undeveloped green spaces provide views out into the surrounding countryside that are significant to the village’s character. The stretch of road and the green spaces offer two different perspectives: a preserved route through the village and views out across the landscape.
Another part of the village’s history concerns the Kander. After it was diverted into Lake Thun through the cut in the Strättlighügel, the regular flooding and debris flows in the lower part of the village came to an end. The Thierachern-Allmend adds nature conservation features to these historical and architectural themes, including rare forest communities. Conservation objectives include pine forest, orchid-rich beech forest and alder-ash forest.
Adventure Trail, Hiking Route and Pump Track
The Thierachern adventure trail has seven stations, one of which is the erratic boulder “Räbi”. The “Thun-West, Uebeschisee-Tangente” hiking route passes through Thierachern-Egg. The descriptions alone show how the two activities differ: the seven stations are a specific feature of the adventure trail, while the hiking route is defined by its path through Thierachern-Egg.
The Thierachern pump track is designed for mountain bikes, BMX bikes, scooters and skateboards. Gentle jumps and curves shape the course, which is considered suitable for all skill levels. It offers a different way to spend your time from the adventure trail or hiking route, focusing instead on various wheeled activities and the distinctive course layout.
