Uebeschi is in the Bernese Oberland and has just over 700 inhabitants. The village lies on long, glacially formed moraine hills between the Aare plain and the Stockhorn range. Small groves, hedgerows, stony drumlins and mighty oak trees shape the landscape. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for a stay here, the natural and landscape features offer a good starting point for planning: the lake and moors, geological traces, and walking and hiking opportunities with scenic views offer a range of options.

When looking for a holiday apartment for a stay in Uebeschi, it is worth deciding on the main focus of your trip first: Are you primarily interested in the moor and lake landscape, walks with scenic views, or a guided horse-riding experience?

Moraine Landscape by the Water

Uebeschisee covers around 13 hectares and is about 15 metres deep at its deepest point. It formed during the last ice age as a so-called dead-ice lake. Today it is a protected wetland; its species-rich reed beds along the shore serve as nesting grounds for waterfowl. The lake therefore brings together two aspects: its formation during the Ice Age and the importance of its shore as a habitat. It is also a point of reference for anyone interested in nature, moorland and birdlife.

In the Amsoldingen moorland, the moors around Amsoldingersee and Uebeschisee lie between pronounced moraine ridges and rounded Molasse ridges. Uebeschi is one of the municipalities included in moorland site 336 in the Federal Inventory of Moorlands of Particular Beauty and of National Importance. The lakes, moors and shapes of the underlying terrain can thus be viewed in the context of the wider landscape. Uebeschi also has former black-earth peat bogs, which were drained at the beginning of the century. This former state adds an example of landscape change to the natural features.

Another geological feature can be found in Gisisalwäldli: compact, quartzitic sandstone is exposed in a former quarry. Together with the drumlins and moraine hills, this example offers a different perspective on the history of the earth than the dead-ice lake.

Walks and Horse Rides

Uebeschi offers scenic hiking opportunities with views of the surrounding lakes and the Stockhorn range. These views give walks and hikes a clear connection to the landscape. At Stockhornhof in Uebeschi, professionally guided horse rides and pony rides are offered for inexperienced beginners as well as more advanced riders. Rides last at least one hour; this includes preparing and caring for the horse before and after the ride. When planning, treat this as the total duration, not just time in the saddle. The walks with views and the riding experience therefore differ in their practical time requirements.

Café and Local Production

Every Wednesday outside school holidays, a weekly café is held in the Archestube of the multipurpose hall in Uebeschi. If you would like to include it in your stay, check whether it falls on the day you plan to visit. According to its own description, Uebeschi cheese dairy produces regional dairy products from fresh milk from cows not fed silage. Local farmers deliver the milk directly twice a day. As well as the landscape and outdoor activities, a regular café gathering and local dairy production are also part of what a stay can offer.
