In Rehetobel, hiking trails, an audio trail, museums and historic bridges offer a range of discoveries. The route details help you plan your time; you can also focus on the culture that interests you, from agricultural history and a bicycle collection to old routes.
Choose hiking trails by distance and duration
The Panorama Trail is 3 km long, with a stated hiking time of 1 hour and 30 minutes. The circular hike Dorf–Chastenloch–Neuschwendi–Dorf covers 8.4 km, with a stated hiking time of 3 hours. The Honeybee Experience Trail is 4 km long, with a stated hiking time of 2 hours and 45 minutes. In comparison, this duration is closer to that of the three-hour circular hike than to the Panorama Trail, even though the Honeybee Trail is considerably shorter. Local conditions can affect hiking times, so use these figures as a guide.
The Panorama Trail, newly created at the time, is also suitable for older people. Well-marked hiking trails lead from Rehetobel towards Trogen and Gäbris; on the other side, trails lead to Lake Constance. The Kaienspitz picnic area can be reached from Rehetobel via a gently ascending nature trail, and invites you to take a break at the highest point. So, alongside longer routes, you can also find a trail leading to a place to pause.
The Honeybee Experience Trail explores the outstanding role bees play in the cycle of nature and their contribution to pollination. This gives the hiking trail its own distinctive theme. If you choose a trail based on your interests, you can consider its stated distance and duration together with its theme.
An audio trail and two different museum collections
The Textildorf hörbar audio trail is an approximately one-hour walking tour that takes in ten different stops in Rehetobel. It is therefore shorter than the hikes listed above. You can use the audio guide on site with a mobile phone that has internet access, or download it to your phone at home before setting out. This means you can decide in advance whether to use the guide only at the location or prepare at home.
The Rehetobel Tractor Museum displays many vintage tractors as well as other agricultural machinery and equipment. Guided tours are available on request, during which visitors can learn which tractors and machines were once used in agriculture. The Rehetobel Bicycle Museum focuses on a different collection: it includes two- and three-wheeled vehicles dating from the first half of the 19th century to the present day. The two museums therefore differ mainly in their subject matter: historic agricultural technology at one, and two- and three-wheeled vehicles spanning a long period at the other.
Historic paths and bridges
The Oberach Bridge was built in 1739 to replace an earlier bridge. It forms part of an old pack trail that runs from Rehetobel through Lobenschwendi to St. Gallen. A second old route crosses the Goldach at AchmĂĽli via a wooden bridge dating from 1701. The bridges are therefore associated with different historic routes: at Oberach, the construction date and replacement of an earlier bridge are linked to the pack trail; at AchmĂĽli, the wooden bridge is associated with the year 1701.
Local place names also help orient you in this landscape: AchmĂĽli lies on the Goldach, while Kaienspitz, at 1,120 metres, is the highest point in the municipality. Rehetobel itself lies 953 metres above sea level. The municipal area ranges from 610 metres at AchmĂĽli to Kaienspitz. Deep ravines carved by the Goldach and Moosbach form natural boundaries of the municipal area.
