Rupperswil can be explored through two themes: the restored Aare landscape and the history of the village, its church and early industry. During your stay, you can combine nature experiences with architectural and historical discoveries. The focus you choose will give your visit its own character.

Floodplain landscape along the Aare

The Oberer Fahrschachen nature forest reserve is located in Rupperswil and is part of the Aargau Floodplain Park. Information boards at the reserve provide insight into enhancement measures carried out along the Aare between Aarau and Wildegg. Rupperswil Floodplain Park is freely accessible at all times. In the Aarau-Wildegg floodplain area, the landscape extends over 270 hectares; following renaturalisation, all the characteristic floodplain features and habitats are present there once again. Near Rupperswil, a renaturalisation project reshaped the river landscape by creating new side channels.

The floodplain landscape between Wildegg and Rupperswil is ideal for walks and cycle rides, with a refreshing swim along the way. Conditions may vary at individual swimming spots. For a trip down to the water, there is also the Brötliplatz in Rupperswil Floodplain Park: it is located beside a side channel of the Aare, in the area of the former football pitch. From the car park by the wooden bridge, you can reach the Brötliplatz along a forest path in around ten minutes on foot.

Places to take a break outdoors

The play and barbecue areas in Rupperswil are located near different landmarks. The «Füllere» area is at the western end of Höhenweg, on the edge of the forest. The play and barbecue area in Stockert is close to the forest lodge and football pitch. Parking for this area is available at the junction of Schweizistrasse and Alter Schulweg; it is about a ten-minute walk away. These details help distinguish between the locations and plan a route to the right starting point.

Rupperswil-Auenstein outdoor swimming pool has a 50-metre swimming pool with a diving area and a children's paddling pool. As facilities may change, it is advisable to check the details before your visit. Alongside the floodplain landscape, you can choose between swimming and spending time outdoors at places on the edge of the forest.

Church, village museum and industrial history

Rupperswil Reformed parish church was built in 1921/22 in the neo-Baroque style, based on plans by Basel architects Ernst Benedikt and Paul Vischer. It replaced a demolished medieval church. Three large chancel windows from 1938, created by Felix Hoffmann (1911–1975), each measure 345 × 130 centimetres. They depict a crucifixion, Peter's denial and the washing of a sinner's feet. The church is part of the «Felix Hoffmann Trail» of the Reformed Church of Aargau, which also includes churches in Aarau, on the Kirchberg, and in Buchs and Suhr.

The Rupperswil Village Museum was established in 1984 in the Wiederkehr House, a thatched, multi-purpose rural building dating from the early 18th century. The house's original room layout has been fully preserved. Its extensive collection includes items from the Wiederkehr House and other locations; together, they convey a picture of rural living culture. A timeline sets important dates in the village's history within the context of Swiss history and world events.

Early industry is also represented in the village landscape. Built on the Aare canal in 1867, the Kosthaus served as workers' accommodation. This late-classical masonry building is a witness to industrial and social history. With its intact exterior, fully preserved interior layout and significant elements of its historic furnishings, it is one of the best-preserved Kosthäuser in the canton of Aargau. The Alte Spinnerei, built in 1837, was the founding building of the Rupperswil textile factory Richner, later Bebié and Steiner. Its classically restrained facades are representative of early factory construction in Aargau. A waterwheel was intended to power a mechanical cotton weaving mill, which was to operate via a supply channel in the Aare plain.
