Frick offers two distinct focal points for a stay: fossil finds, which define the town through its dinosaur museum, dinosaur trail and fossil-hunting site, and the landscape along the Sissle and the wooded Table Jura heights. There is also a Baroque parish church, a historic cultural centre, leisure activities and markets. When planning your trip, the key question is therefore less about following a single must-see route and more about whether you want to devote your time mainly to dinosaurs, hiking, culture or a particular event date.

Experience Frick’s dinosaur finds in different ways

As the only museum in Switzerland to display a complete skeleton of Plateosaurus, recovered from a clay pit near Frick, the Sauriermuseum Frick is a unique attraction. It also features numerous fossils and a film about the discovery of Frick’s dinosaurs. The museum is particularly suited to families and school classes; guided tours are available for groups. It provides a clear introduction to the subject, while the Dinolehrpfad, which runs through Frick, brings it into the town: its eight information pillars share facts about the finds and dinosaurs in general. You can explore the trail independently. At the specially designated fossil-hunting site, visitors can search for fossils in fossil-bearing rock at any time and without registering; tools and safety rules must be observed. The site is also the only significant Plateosaurus find site that remains accessible. The museum, trail and fossil-hunting site differ mainly in format: an exhibition and film, information along a route, and searching through the rock yourself.

Hikes between the Sissle and the Table Jura heights

Frick lies in the wide valley of the Sissle, at around 350 metres above sea level, and is surrounded by the wooded Table Jura heights. This landscape offers a different focus from the dinosaur finds in the town. Spring, when the cherry trees are in blossom, is considered a particularly beautiful time for hiking. If you’re looking for a longer route, the Fricktaler Höhenweg is a hike in its own right: it is 59 kilometres long and runs from Rheinfelden via Frick to Mettau. This lets you choose between a stay focused on what the town has to offer and an extended hiking route, without assuming a particular day plan.

Baroque architecture and cultural programme

The architecture also gives Frick a strong sense of place. The Catholic parish church of St Peter and St Paul, dating from 1716/18, is Baroque, protected at cantonal level and a landmark visible from far away. The Kornhauskeller is housed in a striking Baroque building from 1719, formerly used as a steward’s office, poorhouse and district school. The Kornhauskeller hosts several cultural events every year, including jazz and world music concerts, classical soirées, satire evenings, readings and art exhibitions. Individual events may vary. While the parish church is a permanent feature of the townscape, the Kornhauskeller combines its architectural history with a cultural programme.

Leisure activities and market dates

The Vitamare’s leisure and recreation area includes a 70-metre waterslide, as well as a current channel, a whirlpool and a play area. Check which facilities are available on your travel dates before you visit. The Wälchligarten has been set up as a rest area for visitor groups and is intended for public use.

The Martinimarkt is scheduled for 9 November 2026 from 9 am to 6:30 pm, and the Christmas market for 5 December from 11 am to 9 pm. The following markets are scheduled for 2027: Fasnachtsmarkt on 8 February, Pfingstmarkt on 17 May, Sommermarkt on 30 August, Martinimarkt on 8 November and Christmas market on 4 December. If a market is the reason for your trip, check the exact dates against the calendar before planning.

Choose transport schedules and accommodation for your travel dates

SBB trains run through Frick every half hour towards Zurich and Basel; there are more than 100 bus departures each day. As service frequencies can change, check the timetable for your travel dates. Then coordinate your timetable, event dates and accommodation availability. This way, your choice is guided by the actual reason for your trip rather than a one-size-fits-all day plan.
