Dramsvik lies at the northern end of a comparatively wide and deep bay that is exposed to the wind from several directions. The bay is a prominent landmark for the village. Dramsvik can also be explored through two themes: the coastal landscape of Ă…sebukten and Kuststigen, which has an access point near Dramsvik. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can compare the village with your own travel interests through these themes. If landscape and hiking are your priorities, Kuststigen offers a concrete time estimate; those with a stronger interest in history can explore documented name forms and cultural-historical references.
The Bay and Ă…sebukten
The 2026 management plan describes Ă…sebukten as a nature reserve stretching from Ă… in the south to Dramsvik in the north; most of it consists of marine areas. These provide two scales for understanding the area: the bay locates Dramsvik itself, while Ă…sebukten describes an extensive coastal area that is predominantly maritime. The decision establishing the nature reserve, dated 1 April 2026, is subject to appeal; visitor regulations apply pending review. Please observe these regulations when visiting.
Hiking on Kuststigen
Kuststigen comprises longer, connected coastal hiking trails, separate sections, and loop trails in a typical Bohuslän landscape shaped by the sea and coast. One specific hike runs from Råssbyn to Ljungskile: it is approximately 15 kilometres long, takes about four to five hours, and follows easy terrain. These figures are approximate and provide a rough basis for planning your day. At four to five hours, the hike takes up a continuous block of time that you can factor into your plans for the day. Kuststigen is also more than this one route: the time and distance estimates describe the trail from Råssbyn to Ljungskile, not all sections or loops in general. This makes it possible to consider the specific hike and the trail network as two distinct levels of planning.
Place Name and Historical Traces
The place name itself is documented as early as 1388 in the form “Drams vik.” Other historical forms include Dransuig, Dramsuig, Dramswijken, and Dramsvik. Fishermen’s cottages in Dramsvik are among the subjects from March 1900 documented in a collection at the Bohusläns Museum. Another cultural-historical reference is a root cellar in Dramsvik in Forshälla. A 2022 regional publication lists it among the root cellars visited as part of a course on root cellars. The documented place-name forms point to an early written record, while the fishermen’s cottages and root cellar provide other cultural-historical references. Local history thus adds specific local themes to the picture of the bay and hiking trail.
