A trip to Nittorp can be planned around a range of interests: hiking the Jälmåleden, church history and activities on the water. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, deciding what matters most can help: would you mainly like to go hiking, visit historic church sites or spend time by the water?

Hiking the Jälmåleden

The 35-kilometre Jälmåleden trail passes through scenic surroundings and by burial grounds dating from the Viking Age and Iron Age. The trail therefore combines a longer hike with archaeological traces along the route. Nittorp is a starting point for the Jälmåleden, and there are plenty of parking spaces there. The nearest bus stop to the Jälmåleden in Nittorp is called “Industrivägen”. If you plan to travel by bus, check the connections and service for your travel dates in advance.

Church history in Nittorp

Nittorps kyrka was built in 1847 and designed in the Neoclassical style. Its medieval predecessor survives as a church ruin in the village of Nittorp. This means that two different periods stand side by side: the 19th-century church building and the older church site. Those interested in history can consider these two aspects separately rather than viewing them as a single building. The church ruin at Nittorps stom was probably built in the 13th century. Neoclassicism draws on classical forms from antiquity; the style designation refers to the design of Nittorps kyrka, not to the dating of the church ruin.

Swimming area and fishing waters

At Nygårdssjön in Nittorp, there is a swimming area with changing rooms, a toilet, a bathing jetty, a lawn, tables and benches, and a barbecue area. The lake is also part of Nittorps FVO. Its waters offer fishing for species including perch, pike, roach, bleak and bream.

In addition to Nygårdssjön, the fishing area includes Åsasjön and the Jälmån between Ods Kvarn in Dalstorp and Ryfors, south of Nittorp. The distinction is useful when planning: Nygårdssjön has a designated swimming area, while the FVO also includes other named waters and a stretch of river. This lets you focus on swimming or fishing without having to do both in the same place.
