Töreboda lies on the Göta Canal between Vänern and Vättern. For planning your days, the canal cycling route, walking and activity options, and the Lina ferry take centre stage. When looking for accommodation, first consider whether you mainly want to cycle, explore on foot or experience the ferry connection.

Cycling on the Göta Canal

The Göta Canal Trail is 220 kilometres long in total, divided into seven stages, and connected to Töreboda. It includes 87 kilometres of car-free towpath. As Swedish national cycle route number 7, the route between Mem and Sjötorp is marked throughout with red-and-white signs. This information provides different scales for planning: the total length describes the route, while a one-day cycling trip with children in Töreboda can begin on the Göta Canal and follow the car-free towpath. The one-day trip is therefore a separate excursion idea and should not be equated with the entire route.

Walks and activity circuits

Hälsans Stig in Töreboda is 4.5 kilometres long. The path runs mostly along the Göta Canal and through the centre. The guest harbour is a possible starting point; the walk can begin on either side of the canal. The surface varies: most of the path is paved, while some sections of the towpath along the canal are gravel. This lets you consider the length, route and surface together, rather than looking only at the number of kilometres.

At the Moskogens outdoor recreation area, trails of 2, 2.5, 5 and 10 kilometres start at Mostugan. The options range from shorter to longer routes; the distances listed help you decide how much you want to cover that day. Another option is Rörelse för alla: this activity circuit starts at the guest harbour, goes around the harbour and includes eight functional training exercises. It is adapted for use with wheelchairs and strollers.

The Lina ferry and other places

The Lina ferry crosses the Göta Canal within Töreboda and is considered Sweden’s smallest regular ferry. It is pulled by hand across the canal; visitors can try pulling themselves across. The ferry service was established in 1919 by retired locomotive driver Oskar Lindhult. Lina therefore combines a hands-on experience on the canal with more than a century of history.

The guest harbour has 30 berths and 12 power connections rated at 6 A. The museum of the Töreboda-Björkängs Hembygdsförening is located in Magasinet on Kungsgatan in Töreboda. Visits to Guldgruvan can be arranged during the day or in the evening; please contact them in advance.

Choose accommodation based on your day’s plans

If you are looking for a hotel or other accommodation in Töreboda, first decide which of the options described will shape your stay: the Göta Canal Trail, a walk on Hälsans Stig, the trails from Mostugan or the Lina ferry. This keeps your choice focused on your planned activities without combining the different routes and experiences into a single excursion.
