Cycling between Holsljunga and Ă–verlida

The Pyttebaneleden follows the former railway embankment between Holsljunga and Överlida as a cycling route. The eight-kilometre section from Holsljunga to Överlida runs from Gamla Järnvägen in Holsljunga to the Överlida campsite. The Holsljungaturen reaches Holsljunga, where the route becomes hillier. The two routes offer different guidance for choosing a route: the Pyttebaneleden is defined by the former railway embankment and the named section, while the Holsljungaturen features hillier terrain from Holsljunga onward.

Gräne Gruva: Mining History and Hiking Trail

Gräne Gruva is a feldspar mine dating from the 19th century. Mica and feldspar were extracted there from 1899 to 1932 and exported mainly to Germany. The Pyttebaneleden passes the mine, connecting the cycling route with the area’s historic mining theme. The Toppleden hiking trail near Gräne Gruva is 1.8 kilometres long and offers views of Lake Lilla Hallången. Check the trail details locally before setting out. The distances refer to different activities: eight kilometres for the cycling route section and 1.8 kilometres for the hiking trail. This makes it easy to consider the cycling and walking routes separately when planning.

Church and Village History

Holsljunga Church was built in 1834 and inaugurated in 1835. Its baptismal font dates from the 12th century. The colour scheme from the most recent restoration was created by textile artist Elisabet Brenner; the restoration took place in 1995. The timeline thus spans the medieval baptismal font, the 19th-century church building and the 20th-century restoration.

Högelycke is now used as the village’s local heritage museum. Högelycke hembygdsstuga is housed in a croft from the second half of the 18th century, which originally belonged to Fällhult farm. The building’s origins can therefore be placed earlier in time than the construction of Holsljunga Church. The route to the preacher Jacob Otto Hoof is signposted; there is a parking area and a footpath on site.
