Målsryd offers different themes to explore during your stay: religious buildings and local history on the one hand, and the nearby natural area around Lindåsabäcken on the other. The buildings, historical milestones and municipal nature reserve give you concrete points of reference to help decide what interests you most about the area.

The natural area around Lindåsabäcken

Lindåsabäcken Nature Reserve is a municipal nature reserve. Established in 2008, it is located near Målsryd. Between 10,000 and 20,000 freshwater pearl mussels live in the stream; the nature reserve protects the freshwater pearl mussels living there. This gives the area’s natural significance a specific habitat and species.

The range of 10,000 to 20,000 animals gives a tangible sense of the population’s size. At the same time, the connection between the stream and the freshwater pearl mussel helps explain the reserve’s purpose: its focus is on protecting these animals in their habitat. Visitors who also take an interest in nature when choosing a destination will find a clearly defined point of interest near Målsryd.

Churches and architectural history

Målsryds kyrka was inaugurated on 3 October 1915. Its form is classical, with a simplified Neo-Gothic character, including pointed-arch windows and projecting pilaster strips. The altarpiece “I Galileens lundar” was donated to the church by Director Elis Aronsson. The building’s design and altarpiece offer different insights into this church. Pilaster strips are vertical projections that divide a façade; at Målsryds kyrka, they stand out alongside the pointed-arch windows as a Neo-Gothic detail.

Another phase of church construction is represented by Målsryds Missionskyrka: it was built in 1975–1976 to designs by architect Sture Billhed of Ulricehamn. Alongside the inauguration of Målsryds kyrka in 1915, this construction period marks a later point in the history of local religious buildings. Those interested in churches can thus explore two different building phases and the architectural details recorded for each.

Local history and orientation

The settlement of Målsryd developed around the Målsryd farm. Its transport history includes Målsryds järnvägsstation, which opened to traffic in 1902. Today, Målsryd is divided by a busy road that once ran between Borås and Svenljunga. The farm, railway station and road offer different points of reference for distinguishing the settlement’s development from its transport history.

The Målsryds IF exercise trail also provides a useful point of reference: the Målsryd kyrka bus stop on Råslättsvägen is about 600 metres from the trail. This is an approximate distance that you can use as a guide when planning your route.

Choose a focus for your stay

The churches and transport history offer a cultural and historical perspective; the nearby nature reserve provides a distinct focus on nature.
