In Bredared, hiking trails vary in length, markings and character. There are also ancient pastureland with majestic oaks, lush spring flora and other natural and cultural attractions. You can choose whether to focus your stay on hiking, seasonal plant life or local history.

Hiking trails by length and character

The marked hiking trails start and end at Klockaregården, directly opposite the school. The red Bredared Klockaregården trail is 2.5 kilometres long and lit. A blue-marked hiking trail also runs through Bredared’s oak pasture, with a total length of 7.5 kilometres. This gives you a choice of routes of different lengths, which also differ in their markings.

Further route details provide additional guidance: the green trail is marked counterclockwise. The white trail is considered moderately difficult and has some challenging sections. Compare the routes by the features given for each: lighting applies to the red trail, the difficulty rating to the white trail, and the directional marking to the green trail.

Oak pasture and seasonal nature

Bredared’s oak pasture is an ecclesiastical estate reserve with ancient pastureland and majestic, solitary oaks. In spring, it displays lush flora, including wood anemones and lily of the valley. The blue-marked hiking trail through the oak pasture connects this landscape with a specific route option: it is 7.5 kilometres long in total.

Gåshult offers a different seasonal highlight. Its orchid blooms in early summer are a botanical attraction. The municipal nature reserve covers 32 hectares and was established in 2022. For planning your visit, this means two distinct seasonal highlights: the spring flora in Bredared’s oak pasture and the orchids in bloom at Gåshult in early summer.

Other natural sites

Near Lake Habeltorpa, the hiking trails pass a kettle hole. There is also a bathing area by the lake along the trails. These two features give the site a different focus from the pastureland and flowering plants in the nature reserves.

The Veksjöberg viewpoint offers views in several directions. It adds a viewpoint to the natural sites described here, with its varied vistas taking centre stage.

Getting there and finding your way

Bus 153 from BorĂĄs takes you directly to the hiking trail at the Bredareds skola stop. If you plan to use this connection, it is worth checking the timetable for your travel day.

There is a signposted car park opposite Bredareds kyrka. The reserve, with its information board, is 200 metres from the car park. These landmarks can help you plan your journey and visit.

Church and museum

Bredareds kyrka is a stone Karl Johan-style church built in 1834. Its year of construction and architectural style add a historical note alongside the area’s trails and landscapes.

The Unos Djur museum displays the complete collection of wooden sculptures by Uno Axelsson. The church and museum offer different cultural themes: a 19th-century church building on the one hand, and a collection of wooden sculptures on the other. This lets you complement Bredared’s natural attractions with local history and art.
