Hunnebostrand is considered an old fishing village, with origins dating back to the 13th century. Hiking trails, traces of stone carving and evidence of everyday life in the past offer different perspectives on the place. When planning your stay, you can consider whether you would like to spend more time outdoors on the trails or focus on cultural and historical collections and exhibitions.

Hiking among trails and cultural landscapes

The Kuststigen section between Hunnebostrand and Sotekanalen starts at Gammelgården. There is a car park on Lökholmsvägen, where you will also find the Gamlegården bus stop. Check parking and transport information before setting off, as it may change. The Kuststigen section between Hunnebostrand and Sotekanalen/Ramsvik is also the fourth stage of Soteleden. It includes numerous prehistoric remains and traces of the region’s major stone-carving era.

To the west of Hunnebostrand, the Ramsvikslandet nature reserve, also known as the “Kingdom of the Cliffs,” is nearby. Hiking trails there pass through green coastal meadows and heathland to smooth, pink rock slabs. Signs along Ekoparksleden provide information about nature and culture in the area around Ekoparken and Nordens Ark in Hunnebostrand. The trails mentioned offer different highlights: the Kuststigen section also features prehistoric remains and stone carving, while the landscapes described shape the hiking experience in Ramsvikslandet.

Everyday history and stone carving

GammelgĂĄrden in Hunnebostrand is home to historic buildings dating from the 18th century. The building that now houses the GammelgĂĄrden Museum was built here in 1739. The collection offers a different perspective on the past: more than 1,000 objects represent the people of Hunnebostrand and their everyday lives over several centuries. This makes it possible to explore the history of a particular building and the longer-term history of everyday life through different collections.

Hunnebostrand’s picture archive holds more than 18,000 digitally searchable photographs from Hunnebostrand, Ulebergshamn and the surrounding area. The collection therefore extends beyond Hunnebostrand’s local history to include the two other areas mentioned. Visit the archive’s website for opening hours.

The Stone Carving Museum offers insights into the working life, techniques, production processes, social conditions and culture of the stone carvers. On display are photographs from the stone-carving era, tools and an old stone wagon. The museum also runs stone-carving courses. If a course is important to your travel plans, check dates and availability separately.

Art, bathing spot and harbour

The existing works at Udden Sculpture Park can be enjoyed year-round. The bathing spot Stenbryggan, also known as Kärringbadet, tells a different local story: it was later carved out of the so-called Hitlerstenen. Bathing facilities can change over time, so check current information before visiting.

Hunnebostrand’s guest harbour offers showers, toilets, laundry facilities, a sauna, fresh water, electricity and fuel. As harbour services may change, it is advisable to check the latest information when planning. The places described cater to different interests: hiking and scenery, everyday life over several centuries, stone carving, sculptures and practical harbour facilities.
