Skövde stretches along the slope of Billingen; it is three kilometres from the city centre to the summit. Local highlights range from hiking trails and mountain biking to art and local history, as well as swimming and wellness. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether routes, cycling training, culture or water activities should be the deciding factor. Hiking trails differ in specific ways, such as their length and scenery; museums and swimming facilities each have their own highlights.
Hiking: Billingeleden and Bergaklivet
The Billingeleden is 57 kilometres long and runs around Billingen. It follows the mountain ridge, offering impressive views, and passes through pastures and forests on the slopes, as well as over the limestone plateau in Berg. Bergaklivet is a 19-kilometre circular hiking trail. It passes through flowering meadows, lush wild garlic forests and gently rolling green hills. At 19 kilometres, Bergaklivet is considerably shorter than the Billingeleden; the two trails are also described as having different scenery. When choosing, you can first consider the distance you want to cover, then decide which landscape appeals to you most.
Mountain biking in the Billingens MTB Arena
Billingens MTB Arena is the starting point for the local MTB trail network. The arena has short training trails rated Green, Blue and Red. It also has a pump track: on this undulating course, you can practise balance, rhythm and speed. The arena therefore has two distinct roles: it serves as the starting point for the trail network while also offering short training trails and its own pump track. The training trails have three named difficulty levels; the pump track focuses on its undulating design and practising balance, rhythm and speed.
Art and local history
Konstmuseet is located in Skövde Kulturhus. It hosts permanent and temporary art exhibitions throughout the year. The collection spans art from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. The museum therefore offers both permanent and temporary exhibitions, while the collection covers a period from the early 20th century to today. The Kulturhus is also a staffed InfoPoint, where you can get brochures, maps and local tourist information.
Stadsmuseet has two permanent exhibitions as well as temporary exhibitions. Skövde Streetmuseum offers another way to explore the city’s history: its route passes buildings and artworks that bear traces of different eras and evoke the past. When you reach the next stop on the Streetmuseum route, your phone will sound an alert; you can then read more about that location. The Skövde Streetmuseum guide is available around the clock, regardless of the time of day, weather or season.
Swimming and wellness
Arena Skövde is a multi-purpose facility and a meeting place for all generations. It includes, among other things, a leisure pool. The swimming pool is 25 metres long and has seven lanes. Aqua Vitalis in the centre of Skövde includes a warm-water pool, a hammam stone, a sauna with steam infusions, a steam sauna, an outdoor pool and experience showers. These differences can help you choose according to your preferred focus: Arena Skövde has a pool with a specified length and number of lanes, while Aqua Vitalis offers saunas, a hammam stone and experience showers in addition to its pools.
