Ellös offers several reasons to visit: a short walking route, an explicitly difficult hiking trail, a child-friendly bathing spot, and a viewpoint overlooking the Ellösfjord and the sea. The town’s boatbuilding tradition, Öppet Varv and boat trips are also part of the picture. When planning your trip, you can give different weight to trails, the beach and maritime activities, depending on your interests.

Walking route, viewpoint and hike

Hälsoslingan is suitable for walking and is 1.2 to 1.4 kilometres long. Husebyleden is a difficult hiking trail measuring 3.5 kilometres. In direct comparison, this means a shorter walking route versus a longer trail that is explicitly described as difficult. You can choose your route based on its length and the level of difficulty you want.

A walking path leads from central Ellös to a viewpoint overlooking the Ellösfjord and the sea. While Hälsoslingan and Husebyleden can be compared by length and difficulty, this path leads to a specific viewpoint.

Husebyleden is on Route 178 between Varekil and Ellös. Just before Ellös, turn towards Hälleviksstrand; after 50 metres, there is a car park on the left with a “Fornborg” sign, and the trail starts on the other side of the road. Check the access information before you travel.

Beach with play facilities

Sörkilens badplats is a child-friendly bathing spot in Ellös. The playground is right by the beach and has a slide, a large sandpit and swings. There is also a jetty for crabbing. A ramp and an accessible staircase are relevant for visitors with mobility difficulties. If these facilities are important for your visit, check their condition in advance.

Library in everyday local life

Ellös bibliotek is both a public library and a school library. At certain times, it offers access without staff present. This means that local amenities include a public everyday space as well as trails and a beach. When planning, bear in mind that this access is available only at certain times.

Boatbuilding tradition and experiences at sea

Ellös has a long tradition of boatbuilding, and the shipyard industry continues to be important to the town. At Öppet Varv, visitors can watch boats being built live. Check the dates and programme for the relevant edition if you would like to plan this experience. Watching boats being built offers a different focus from walking or visiting the beach.

Mareblå & Havsguiderna’s boat trips depart from the steamboat pier in Ellös guest harbour. Confirm the departure point when booking. The range of trips includes a three-hour deep-sea fishing trip, which is weather- and season-dependent. Öppet Varv focuses on boatbuilding, while this trip is about going out to sea to fish; the dates or season and the weather are therefore separate factors to consider when planning.
